[E] _ [C] It was interesting, growing up I never was a huge Jeff Beck fan.
It was guys more [Dm] like Steve Lukather [Bb] and Larry Carlton that connected with me more,
just the way they played.
They were probably [Gm] influenced by Jeff.
[C] Somebody finally [Dm] convinced me, [C] this was about 1999, go see Jeff Beck, you have to go [Am] see Jeff Beck.
At [Bb] that point I wasn't really [F] listening to [Gm] guitar music, I didn't really care that much.
Regrettingly I went, and still to this day it's by far the best guitar performance I've ever seen.
For whatever reason, every note seemed to have, [F] there was a purpose involved.

It's kind of what [G] I was always trying to [F] do as well, but he [Bb] was on this whole other level.
And yeah, absolutely, [F] things didn't always [Bb] line up the way he might have [Gm] intended, but
the fact that he was going for it, it wasn't just a by-road sterile performance.
There was a [Dm] true energy and passion behind everything he was playing, and when it did
connect, [A] I [Dm] must have been [Db] in tears four [Bb] times that night.

Really emoting through the instrument.
[C] If you can really let it [F] go, and [Dm] not think about [F] anything, but just [Bb] what note you want
to hear next, [F] and what feeling you want to attach to that note, where you want to place
it within the [Bb] bar, how do you want to present that [F] particular phrase, that's when things are great.
Because it is real, it is human.
I [Am] make a lot of mistakes, and I'd rather it be [Dm] that than [A] something being sterile and stiff and unmusical.
