DiMarzio Twang King Neck & The Chopper T Bridge Pickups for Richie Kotzen chords
Start Jamming...
[A]
[E] [F#m]
[B] [A]
[B] So, [F#m]
[F#]
[C#]
[N] in my bridge pickup, I'm using the DiMarzio Chopper T.
And this is the pickup that's been
in my Telecaster for, well, since the guitar was introduced in 1996 in Japan.
So I've been
playing this pickup for a very long time.
And it really does everything I need it to
do.
It's not a super loud pickup, so you get to hear a lot of the tone of the wood
of the guitar.
But it's still loud enough when you want to play a more aggressive style
that you can get that kind of sustain that you need out of that kind of a pickup.
So,
for example, [B]
[G] you got that singing sustain, but then also you [Bm]
[F#] can clean it up by moving
the volume knob.
[E] [B]
[B] It still has that percussive attack.
I'll turn the delay off so you hear
more of that.
[F#m] [E]
[B] [D#] You can really hear the percussiveness of the Telecaster.
So it really does both
jobs.
There's a lot of dynamic range within the pickup, which is something that I need.
So that's really the ultimate pickup for me and my style of playing, is the DiMarzio Chopper
T.
So on the neck pickup of the guitar, it's really a standard Telecaster style pickup.
There's nothing tricky going on here.
It's not a humbucking pickup.
[N] It's called a Twang
King.
It also just has that kind of dynamic range that I talk about all the time, where
when I play [Bm] quiet, [A] it cleans up, and if I play [G] harder, [B] it has a little more bite to
it.
[F#]
[F] At the same time, not only rhythm, it's a great lead pickup.
So if I put on my lead
channel [B]
or [Bm] [B]
[Bm]
[B] even an [B] aggressive rhythm tone,
[N] one of the things that I really depend on
a lot for changing the tone of the guitar is using the volume knob.
And I can back the
volume [G] [G] and get a clean tone, but that's full out.
[Bm]
I bring the volume knob down, it cleans
up nice.
[Bm]
So [N] for me, it's the ultimate combination to have the Chopper T and the Twang King in
one guitar.
I've got all the tonal options I need.
So I have a new record out with a
new band called The Winery Dogs, and it's our debut self [F]-titled CD.
And it's a collaboration
with me and Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy.
We wrote the record right here in my studio.
And for me, it was a lot of fun to get with these guys and write with them and play with
them.
It's a true collaboration.
And what really stands out is the interplay we have.
It's a real combination of elements that I think give the band a unique sound.
[N] And the
fact that each guy has their own identity, their own sound.
But when you listen to the
record, no one lost their identity.
You can still tell that that's Billy playing the bass
and that's Mike Portnoy's drum style.
And that's important because when you have a situation
where you're playing with guys that have their own sound, it's easy for somebody to kind
of get lost in the shuffle.
But with this record, I think we, without [A] even thinking,
somehow ended up with a [C#] sound.
And a sound where it does sound like a band, but yet,
[E] if you're familiar with how we play as individuals, that's there as well, which is not always
easy to do.
And it's something I'm very happy with.
So if The Winery Dogs come anywhere
near where you live, be sure to check us out.
