[F#] Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty [F] Schwartz here from
[F#] GuitarJams.com.
[Em] I had a lot of requests for this [F] song.
I actually just heard it for the first time and I thought to myself, well, [E] okay, it's real easy.
It's the same progression over and over.
It's got one [G] bar chord in there, so I'm going to give you a little [A] bit of tips if you're
a beginner working on a bar chord.
We're going to zoom in.
I'll break it down.
Also, if you're trying to get better into your rhythm guitar playing, I [Em] know a lot of
people struggle with that when they're starting on guitar.
[Bm] I've got a free rhythm lesson that just focuses on strumming.
I've got a link right down there.
It's not on YouTube, but you can go down there and check that stuff out.
I really [F] appreciate it.
But let's [F#] zoom in now and work on this tune.
Here we go.
So, like I said, it's the same progression over and over [Em] and
[F] it's a fast strum.
[Em]
So I'm going down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, [G] down, up, down, up, down, down,
down, up, down, up, down, [F#] down, down, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up.
[Em]
[N] So it does one of those rhythm patterns on a B minor chord.
And part of getting a bar chord down is the strength of your thumb squeezing.
So there's a lot of pressure on your thumb squeezing down with your fingers.
So it's not going to really work like that.
It's more about pressure.
And you also want to get, use the side of your finger right here for the bar.
So not the flat part, but the bar like that.
[E] And then this shape, which looks like an A minor [N] shape where your index finger is the
capo and then you've got the shape right [Bm] here.
[F#] Another tip when you're trying to get the sound and you get the bar chord down and it
doesn't [F] sound right, you'd like to, you know, a good tip is to get the bar [A#] first [A] and [Bm] then
the shape [F#] and play the chord.
Then, you know, it doesn't have to be perfect.
Then do the shape first, then the bar, [Bm]
and then do it that [E] way.
Keep switching [F] back and forth with how you play that bar chord.
So shape [Bm] and then the bar.
[N] Okay, this time the bar, then the shape.
[Bm] [B] Then eventually they'll both be instantaneous.
[Bm] But you've got to put time into it.
Don't avoid it.
Just play it [F#] where it sounds bad and that's the only way to keep going to get it to sound good.
[Bm] [G#] All right, so we've [Bm] got the B [E] minor, then a G major [G] chord, and then a [D] D major chord.
And the D [Em] major chord takes up two of [F#] those rhythm patterns.
[Bm] You've got down, down, down, up, down, [G] up, down, down, down, up, down, up, [D] down, down,
down, up, down, up, down, down, down, down, [Bm] up, down, up.
