[E] But your looks don't help, like an old gold [D] digger
Uncool but lyrically I'm a stone cold killer
[G] So it's four hundred blows to these [Am] true foe niggas
Now that's the line of the [Em] century, niggas missed it too busy
They lying bout penitentiary [Bm] man, you ain't been there
Nigga you been scared, and I'm still living single like Sinclair
[Am] Loving white dudes who call me white and then try to hate

Stone Mountain you raised me well, I'm stared at by confederates but hard as hell
[Am] Tight jeans, penny loafers but I still drink a [Em] full down
Staying on my meat shit but hated on by both [Bm] sides
I'm just a kid who blowing up with my [Em] father's name in every black
You're not black enough, it's a white, you're all the [Am] same
We eat food like rats, mixed conicious
Cause it's Oreos, Twinkies, coconuts, delicious
[Bm] How many pool plaques you want inside your dining room?
[Em] I said I want a full house, they said you got it dude
[Am]

I know you know, I know [A] you got that power
[D]

Got flow, I can make a cripple cook [Bm] a bowl
Niggas wrestling, all they do is shit [Em] talk
People want a real man, I made them wait this [Am] long
Maybe if he bombs, he'll quit and keep acting
[Em] And save paper like your aunt does with McDonald napkins
[Bm] How'd it happen?
I honestly didn't
See all of my competition at the body exhibit
[Am] Yeah, body with limits, and I said it through fakers
[Em] Motherfuckers be baited, cream made from haters
[Bm] So my studio be a funeral
[Em] Yeah, this is our year, oh you didn't know
[Am] Yeah, I'm killing you, step inside a lion's den
[Em] Manhole with the O with an iron [Bm] stare
On stage with my family in front of [Em] me
I am what I am, everything I wanna [Am] be
Call me,
[G] hater, see you, [E]
later
Call it I can [Em]
zoom, but you don't even hear me there
I [Am] know you know, I know you got [Em] that power [G] That [D] power
[Am]
[Em]
[D]
[G]
[Am] This is on a bus back from camp
[Em] I'm 13 and so are you
[D] Before I left for camp I imagined it would be me and 3 or 4 other dudes
[G] I hadn't met yet running around all summer getting into trouble
[Am] Turned out it'd be me and just one girl
[Em] That's you
We'll still at camp [D] as long as we're on the bus
And not at the pickup point where our parents will be waiting for [G] us
We're still wearing our orange can t-shirts
[Am] We still smell like pine needles
I [Em] like you, and you like me
And I more than like you, but [D] I don't know if you do or don't more than like me
[G] You've never said, so I haven't been saying anything all summer
[Am] Content to enjoy the [A] small miracle of a girl choosing to talk to me
[Em] And choosing to do so again the next day and so on
[A] A girl who's smart and funny
[D] [G] And who if I say something dumb for a laugh
Is willing [Am] to say something 2 or 3 times as dumb to make me laugh
[Em] But who also gets weird and lies sometimes in a way I could never [D] be
A girl who reads books and no one's assigned [G] to her
This curly brownie here has a line running [Am] through it
And where she put a tie to hold [E] it up while it was still wet
[Em]
Back in the real world we don't go [D] to the same school
And unless one of our families moves to [G] a dramatically different neighborhood
We won't go to the same high school
[Am] So this is kind of it for us
[Em] Unless I say something
And it might especially [D] be it for us if I actually do say something
[G] The sun's gone down and the bus is quiet
[Am] A lot of kids are asleep
We're talking in whispers [Em] about a tree we saw at a rest stop that looks like a kid we know
[D] And then I'm like, [G] can I tell you something?
And all of a sudden I'm telling [Am] you
And I keep telling you
And it all [Em] comes out of me and it keeps coming
And your face is there and gone and [D] there and gone
As we pass under the orange lamps that line the sides of the [G] highway
And there's no expression on it
[Am] And I think just after a point I'm just talking to lengthen the [Em] time
Where we live in a world where you haven't said [D] yes or no yet
And regrettably I end [G] up using the word destiny
[Am] I don't [A] remember in what context
[Bm] [Em] It doesn't really matter
Before long I'm out of stuff [D] to say
And you smile and say, okay
[G] I don't know exactly what you mean by it but [Am] it seems vaguely positive
And I would leave in order [G] not to spoil the moment but there's nowhere to go [Em] because we're on a bus
[D] So I pretend like I'm asleep and before [G] long I really am
[Am] I wake up, the [E] bus isn't moving anymore
[Em] The dorm lights that line the center aisle are on
[D] I turn and you're not there
[G] Then again a lot of kids aren't in their seats anymore
We're [A] parked at the pickup point
Which is in the parking [D] lot of a Methodist [Em] church
The bus is half empty
[D] You might be in your dad's car by now
Your bags and things piled high [G] in the trunk
Girls in the back of the bus are shrieking [Am] and laughing and taking their sweet time
Disembarking as I swing [Em] my legs out into the aisle to get up off the bus
[D] Just as one of them reaches my row
That used to be our [G] row
On our way off
[Am] It's Michelle
[E] A girl who got [Em] suspended from third grade for a week after throwing rocks at my head
[D] Adolescence is doing her a ton [G] of favors body-wise
She stops and looks down [Am] at me
And her head is [Em] blasted from behind by the dorm lights so I can't really see [D] her face
But I can see her smile
[G] When she says one word
[Am] Destiny
[Em]
Then her and the girls clogging the [D] aisles behind her all laugh and then she turns and leans them off the [G] bus
[Am] I didn't even know you were friends with them
[Em] I find my [D] dad in the parking lot
He [F#] drives me back to [G] our house
Camp is over
[Em] So is summer
He even goes two weeks until school starts
[D] This isn't a story about how [G] girls are evil or how love is bad
[Am] This is a story about how I learned something
And I'm not [Em] saying this thing is true or not
I'm just saying it's what I learned
[D] I told you something
[G] It was just for you
You told [Am]
everybody
So I learned to cut out the middle man
We get [Em] off for everybody always
Everybody can't [D] turn around and tell everybody
Everybody already knows I told them
[G] If [Em] this means there isn't a place in [Am] my life for you or someone like you
Is it [Em] sad?
Sure
It's the sadness I [D] chose
I wish I could say this [G] was a story about how I got on the bus a boy and got off a man [E] more cynical, [Am] hardened, and insurged
[Em] But that's not true
[D]
The truth is I got on the bus [G#] a boy
And I never got off the bus
I still haven't
[F#] All that I [G] could do, but you don't even feel [F] me though
I know you know, I know [Em] you got that power,
[D] power

Call it I can [F#] zoom, but you [D] don't even hear me there
I know you know, I know [A] you got that power
[D] _ _ _
That power
_ _ _ _ [G] _
Oh, _ [Em] _ oh, oh
[Am] _
Call her at your boy like your dad when he's pissed [Em] off
Got flow, I can make a cripple cook [Bm] a bowl
Niggas wrestling, all they do is shit [Em] talk
People want a real man, I made them wait this [Am] long
Maybe if he bombs, he'll quit and keep acting
[Em] And save paper like your aunt does with McDonald napkins
[Bm] How'd it happen?
I honestly didn't
See all of my competition at the body exhibit
[Am] Yeah, body with limits, and I said it through fakers
_ [Em] Motherfuckers be baited, cream made from haters
[Bm] So my studio be a funeral
_ [Em] Yeah, this is our year, oh you didn't know
[Am] Yeah, I'm killing you, step inside a lion's den
[Em] _ Manhole with the O with an iron [Bm] stare
On stage with my family in front of [Em] me
I am what I am, everything I wanna [Am] be
_ Call me, _
_ [G] hater, see you, [E]
later
_ _ Call it I can [Em]
zoom, but you don't even hear me there
I [Am] know you know, I know you got [Em] that power _ [G] _ That _ [D] _ power
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Am] _ _ This is on a bus back from camp
_ [Em] I'm 13 and so are you
_ _ [D] Before I left for camp I imagined it would be me and 3 or 4 other dudes
[G] I hadn't met yet running around all summer getting into trouble
_ [Am] _ _ Turned out it'd be me and just one girl
_ [Em] That's you _
_ We'll still at camp [D] as long as we're on the bus
And not at the pickup point where our parents will be waiting for [G] us
_ We're still wearing our orange can t-shirts
[Am] We still smell like pine needles
_ I [Em] like you, and you like me
And I more than like you, but [D] I don't know if you do or don't more than like me
_ [G] You've never said, so I haven't been saying anything all summer
[Am] Content to enjoy the [A] small miracle of a girl choosing to talk to me
[Em] And choosing to do so again the next day and so on
_ [A] A girl who's smart and funny
[D] _ _ [G] And who if I say something dumb for a laugh
Is willing [Am] to say something 2 or 3 times as dumb to make me laugh
[Em] But who also gets weird and lies sometimes in a way I could never [D] be
_ A girl who reads books and no one's assigned [G] to her
This curly brownie here has a line running [Am] through it
And where she put a tie to hold [E] it up while it was still wet
[Em] _ _ _ _
Back in the real world we don't go [D] to the same school _
And unless one of our families moves to [G] a dramatically different neighborhood
We won't go to the same high school
[Am] _ So this is kind of it for us
_ [Em] Unless I say something _
_ And it might especially [D] be it for us if I actually do say something
_ [G] _ The sun's gone down and the bus is quiet
[Am] A lot of kids are asleep
_ _ We're talking in whispers [Em] about a tree we saw at a rest stop that looks like a kid we know
[D] _ _ And then I'm like, _ [G] can I tell you something? _
And all of a sudden I'm telling [Am] you
And I keep telling you
And it all [Em] comes out of me and it keeps coming
And your face is there and gone and [D] there and gone
As we pass under the orange lamps that line the sides of the [G] highway
And there's no expression on it
_ [Am] And I think just after a point I'm just talking to lengthen the [Em] time
Where we live in a world where you haven't said [D] yes or no yet
_ And regrettably I end [G] up using the word _ destiny
_ _ _ [Am] I don't [A] remember in what context
[Bm] _ [Em] It doesn't really matter _ _
Before long I'm out of stuff [D] to say
_ And you smile and say, okay
[G] _ _ I don't know exactly what you mean by it but [Am] it seems vaguely positive
And I would leave in order [G] not to spoil the moment but there's nowhere to go [Em] because we're on a bus
[D] _ So I pretend _ like I'm asleep and before [G] long I really am
_ _ _ _ [Am] I wake up, the [E] bus isn't moving anymore
[Em] _ The dorm lights that line the center aisle are on
[D] _ _ I turn and you're not there
_ [G] Then again a lot of kids aren't in their seats anymore
We're [A] parked at the pickup point
Which is in the parking [D] lot of a Methodist [Em] church _ _
The bus is half empty
[D] You might be in your dad's car by now
Your bags and things piled high [G] in the trunk _
Girls in the back of the bus are shrieking [Am] and laughing and taking their sweet time
Disembarking as I swing [Em] my legs out into the aisle to get up off the bus
_ [D] Just as one of them reaches my row
_ That used to be our [G] row
_ On our way off
_ _ [Am] _ It's Michelle _
[E] A girl who got [Em] suspended from third grade for a week after throwing rocks at my head
[D] _ _ Adolescence is doing her a ton [G] of favors body-wise
_ She stops and looks down [Am] at me
And her head is [Em] blasted from behind by the dorm lights so I can't really see [D] her face _
But I can see her smile
[G] _ When she says one word
[Am] _ _ Destiny
_ _ [Em] _
Then her and the girls clogging the [D] aisles behind her all laugh and then she turns and leans them off the [G] bus _ _ _
_ _ [Am] I didn't even know you were friends with them
_ [Em] _ _ _ _ I find my [D] dad in the parking lot
He [F#] drives me back to [G] our house
Camp is over
_ [Em] So is summer _
He even goes two weeks until school starts _
_ [D] _ This isn't a story about how [G] girls are evil or how love is bad
[Am] This is a story about how I learned something
And I'm not [Em] saying this thing is true or not
I'm just saying it's what I learned
_ [D] _ I told you something
_ [G] It was just for you
You told [Am]
everybody
So I learned to cut out the middle man
We get [Em] off for everybody always
_ Everybody can't [D] turn around and tell everybody
Everybody already knows I told them
[G] _ If [Em] this means there isn't a place in [Am] my life for you or someone like you
Is it [Em] sad?
Sure
_ _ It's the sadness I [D] chose
_ I wish I could say this [G] was a story about how I got on the bus a boy and got off a man [E] more cynical, [Am] hardened, and insurged
[Em] _ But that's not true
[D] _
The truth is I got on the bus [G#] a boy
_ And I never got off the bus
_ I still haven't _ _
