Welcome to Vanderbilt.com. This is in response to a request for the rhythm section of
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Woodstock.
I have a previous lesson on the intro solo, which you can check out, pick that up.
So for here, I'm gonna play through that intro solo and then go through all of the chords.
[Bb] [B]
[Dm] [C]
[Bb] [B]
[G]

[G] [B] [G]

Okay, the rhythm starts off with a G7 chord on the 3rd fret.
So, you know, make your standard major bar chord.
Lift up your pinky and you know, you've got a [G] G7.
And the rhythm is just
Then you move to a C chord, which is a G7 chord. Same fret.
[C] [Db]
And then to a C7.
And this C7 is the same as this A7 [Em] open.
[N] So you're just taking your
It's the same form, I mean.
So you're just taking your bar on the 3rd fret.
You're putting your ring finger on the D string, 5th fret.
And your pinky on the [G] B string, 5th fret.
So [C] that's
And that change from the C to the C7 is kind of key there, because you want it to sound like
[Eb] Okay, so you make that change.
So far we've got [G]
G7, [Dm]
[C] C, and C7.
Then you go back to the C and the C7.
And [G] then the G7.
[D] And if you want to simulate the little guitar lick that they put in there, you can just
While you're playing that [Db] G7 at the end, you can just
[G] play
And then hit the top strings, that is the E string and the B string with an upstroke.
And then put your pinky on the B string, 6th fret.
And get
And then lift it up.
So [Eb]
just playing [G] it like this.
It's a nice little touch in there.
Then you go back and play the same exact thing.
And
[C]
[G] you end on that sudden
Like that.
And then you're going to move [N]
to
What's basically a
I think it's a G minor chord, [Gm] but with a C thrown in.
So normally, this is your normal G minor chord.
[B] And what you're going to do is you're going to pick up your ring finger.
And you're only playing this 5th fret on the D string.
I try actually not to play the G note on this.
I play
I start with the C, which is here on the A string.
So [C] that sounds like
[B] And before you go into it, I usually play like a sort of a version of a G power chord.
Just like
So it would be like
[C] And then to
Okay? Okay.
So that part is
G power.
G minor with C.
[G] And then back to G7.
[C] And then back to the G minor C.
[G] So again, that section just looks like this.
[C] [G]
[C] [G]
And then the very end of the chorus, you just do a [Bb] Bb on the 1st fret.
[F] And then an F.
Full F.
And then a [C] C.
[G] And back to G.
This time, don't play the G7.
Play a full G to get the major feeling.
And [F] then down to an F.
[Bb] [G] So again, that little chorus sequence is
[C] [G]
[C] [G]
[Bbm] [F]
[C] [G]
[F]
And [G] you're back to [N] the rest of the chorus.
And that's pretty much it.
So again, you can refer back to my previous lesson on the solo to pick that up.
The intro solo.
It's all in G minor [Gm] pentatonic.
[Bb] And I hope you have fun with it.
Thanks for watching.
