Well, hello there, welcome along to another video lesson.
This week we're going to have a look at a very simple tune
This is the Mavericks and Dance the Night Away.
It's really good, really good song.
I'm going to show you the chords
It's only two chords the whole way through and then I'll show you the guitar solo
But first of all, let me just play it through for you so you can see how it goes
[B] [E] [B]
[E] [B] [E] [B]
[E] There we are, nice little tune that isn't it with with the solo
If you can play it with another guitar player, sounds really good.
Let me show you the chords
So these chords really easy just two open chords first one being E
Okay, E major and [B] B7
Now this one is a little tricky
Let me just show you what I'm doing here my first finger on the first fret of the D
Second finger here on the second fret of the A
third finger on
The second fret of the G and then your little finger if you can get that in there
That's the second fret of the high E should sound like this
Okay, so for [E] this tune really you're thinking of this one two, three [B] four
one two, three [E] four one two, three [B] four
One two, three four and that's it [G#] for the whole tune.
That's all you got to do
So if you were [E] strumming that so [B]
[D#] that's quite simple but what you can do to make it sound a bit better [E] is you can do this
[B] [E] so this is what I call a scratch and
If I just show you how to do that
It's kind of kind of a funny one to explain but if I don't use this hand if I don't use my right hand
can you see when I
When I go down instead of just doing that.
I'm coming down at the same time and I'm
[Em] touching the strings
[Am] So you get that kind of scratchy sound and I like that.
I think that sounds really good
So the tricky thing is you've [E] got add with your chord
so one and two and three and four
So if you think about that the scratches one and two is coming on the two and the four one and scratch
[N] Okay, so that's that then now the tricky thing is you've got to change to [E] the other chord
[B] change
So that that is a bit [F#] tricky so if I play that up [E] to speed
[B] [E] [B]
[Em] What you can do though if you're working on that scratch
Whilst you're watching telly
Just do this
Sometimes you won't get it right.
Sometimes [A] it'll kind of be like this
There was something like that, you know, but if you can get a good
[Am] [E] distinction between the chord and the scratch
Because if [A#] it's you don't really want the you know, the chord sounding
[B] And the scratch like that
[F#] That won't sound good.
So try and get a good [E] separation
[B] [E] Of course, you don't have to use that scratch.
You can just play the chords normally if you want if [B] [E] you can get that scratch
So that that will be excellent.
So let's have a look at what we're doing for the solo now
So if you put your first finger on two on the [F#] D, that's the first note and
[B] Then two on the a that's the first two bits
Then four on the D two on the a
Okay, then you're going to slide up with your [F#] third finger
[G#] Up to the sixth fret on the D two [E] on the D
[F#] four on the D six [G#] on D
[A] Seven back [F#] to four on D again.
So so [E] far let me play that slow you've got [Bm]
[E] [G#] [A] [F#]
okay.
That's the first bit
[E] And here's the next bit.
I'll just play that in its entirety so you can you can get how it goes together
[F#]
[G#] [E] So that's the next bit that's six on the D back [E] to two on the D
and then
[B] Four on the a a little slide if you can get that that will be really good
to two on the a
[F#] four on the D
Nearly [E] at the end now
Two on the D to four on the G and then go back to the two on the D again
So back to [D#] one
Then four [B] on the G
Okay, [E] so let me play that that through from the beginning
[F#] [Bm]
[F#] [G#] [E]
[B] [F#] [E] Okay
[C#] Now I've just simplified that a bit from the record because on the record and on the demo I play
[A] if you want to learn that bit that's
[C#] That's the same four to [Bm] two
[B] And then another slide from [D#] four to six on the a
[F#] four on the D and [G#] then
Six here on the D slide up to [A] seven
Back to [G#] six again
[F#] To four so [G#] that that's what he plays on the on the [B] record.
[F#] So [G#m] the simplified version
[E]
[D] [E] There we are.
That's it.
There is no more to learn for that tune
Do have a listen to the original though.
The Mavericks dance the night away very cool
How you can write a song just with two chords and their basic chords to the chords we learn when we're younger
That's really great
Okay.
This week we're going to have a look at a very simple tune
This is the Mavericks and Dance the Night Away.
It's really good, really good song.
I'm going to show you the chords
It's only two chords the whole way through and then I'll show you the guitar solo

one two, three [E] four one two, three [B] four
One two, three four and that's it [G#] for the whole tune.
That's all you got to do
So if you were [E] strumming that so [B]
[D#] that's quite simple but what you can do to make it sound a bit better [E] is you can do this
[B] [E] so this is what I call a scratch and
If I just show you how to do that

So if you think about that the scratches one and two is coming on the two and the four one and scratch
[N] Okay, so that's that then now the tricky thing is you've got to change to [E] the other chord
[B] change
So that that is a bit [F#] tricky so if I play that up [E] to speed
[B] [E] [B]
[Em] What you can do though if you're working on that scratch
Whilst you're watching telly
Just do this
Sometimes you won't get it right.

[B] Four on the a a little slide if you can get that that will be really good
to two on the a
[F#] four on the D
Nearly [E] at the end now
Two on the D to four on the G and then go back to the two on the D again
So back to [D#] one
Then four [B] on the G
Okay, [E] so let me play that that through from the beginning
[F#] [Bm]
[F#] [G#] [E]
[B] [F#] [E] Okay
[C#] Now I've just simplified that a bit from the record because on the record and on the demo I play
[A] if you want to learn that bit that's

_ [F#] four on the D six [G#] on D
[A] _ Seven back [F#] to four on D again.
So so [E] far let me play that slow you've got [Bm] _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ [G#] _ [A] _ _ [F#] _
okay.
That's the first bit
[E] And here's the next bit.
I'll just play that in its entirety so you can you can get how it goes together
_ [F#] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G#] _ _ [E] So that's the next bit that's six on the D back [E] to two on the D
and then
[B] _ Four on the a a little slide if you can get that that will be really good
to two on the a
[F#] four on the D
Nearly [E] at the end now
Two on the D to four on the G and then go back to the two on the D again
So back to [D#] one
Then four [B] on the G
Okay, [E] so let me play that that through from the beginning
_ [F#] _ [Bm] _ _ _
_ _ _ [F#] _ _ [G#] _ [E] _ _
_ [B] _ _ _ [F#] _ [E] Okay _
_ _ _ [C#] Now I've just simplified that a bit from the record because on the record and on the demo I play
_ [A] _ if you want to learn that bit that's
[C#] That's the same four to [Bm] two

[F#] four on the D and [G#] then
Six here on the D slide up to [A] seven
Back to [G#] six again
[F#] To four so [G#] that that's what he plays on the on the [B] record.
_ _ [F#] So [G#m] the simplified version
_ [E] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ [E] There we are.
That's it.
There is no more to learn for that tune
Do have a listen to the original though.
