Hi guys, Party Marty here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
I got another request, a great old country singer named Kenny Rogers, The Gambler.
I know everybody in the world knows this song.
Anybody who's ever picked up a guitar probably half knows how to play it.
But anyway, yeah, this is a great tune to put on the channel.
I'm very proud to do it.
So anyway, this is for you, one of my subscribers.
And let's give this one a go.
It's pretty easy to tune, actually.
And you know what?
It's a great tune to at any priority function.
Everybody loves to sing this song.
And a lot of people usually know the words to this.
So anyway, it's a really good [G] choice.
Anyway, the first chord is G.
The second [C] is C.
And [D] the third is D.
[G] First chord again is
G.
[C] Second chord is C.
[D] Third chord is B.
This is a [G] nice easy strum.
And I tend to strum the pick the bass note of the chord.
In that case, the G would be the top string of the third fret.
So it would be C [F] would be the second [C] one down there in the third fret.
[F]
And then [Eb] D would be the fourth string from the [D] bottom there, which would be your D string.
[G] Back to G.
And that's the strum pattern too.
[C]
[G]
[D] And there you go.
So practice that a few times and then give her a go with me.
[G] Kenny Rogers, The Gambler.
Here we go.
On a warm summer's evening, [C] on a train [G] bound for nowhere, [C] I met [G] up with The Gambler.
We were both too [D] tired to sleep, [G] so we took turns staring [C] out the window, [G] out the [C] darkness.
The porter [G] longer took us.
[D] He [G] began to speak.
He said, son, I've made a life [C] out of reading [G] people's faces, [C] knowing [G] what the costs were,
by the way they [D] held the ride.
[G] So if you don't mind me saying, [C] I can see [G] your outer [C] faces for a [G] taste of your whiskey.
[D] I'll [G] give you some advice.
So I handed him my bottle, [C] and he drank [G] down while I swallowed.
[C] [G] Then he bought the cigarette and asked me for [D] a lighter.
[G] And the night got deathly quiet, [C] and his face [G] lost all expression.
If [C] you're gonna [G] play the game [D] boy, you gotta [G] learn to play it right.
You gotta know when to follow, [C] [G] know when to follow, [C] [G] know when to walk away, know [D] when to run.
You [G] have to count your money.
[C] When you're [G] sitting at the table, [C] every [G] time I've counted, [D] when the [G] feeling's done.
Now every gambler knows [C] that the secret [G] to survival [C] is knowing [G] what to throw [C] away,
knowing [D] what to keep.
[G] Because every hand's a winner, [C] and [G] every hand's a loser.
[C] [G] Bet you the hope for [D] it's a die in [G] your sleep.
You gotta know when to follow, [C] [G] know when to follow,
[C] [G] know when to walk away, know [D] when to run.
You [G] never count your money.
[C] When you're [G] sitting at the table, [C] every [G] time I've counted, [D] when the [G] feeling's done.
When he finished speaking, [C] he [G] turned back towards the window,
[C] [G] and pressed out a cigarette, and faded [D] off to sleep.
[G] Somewhere in the darkness, [C] the [G] gambler he broke even.
[C] And in [G] his final words, [D] I found a nation [G] that I could keep.
You gotta know when to follow, [C] [G] know when to follow, [C] know [G] when to walk away, [D] know when to run.
[G] You never count your money.
[C] When you're sitting [G] at the table, [C] every time [G] I've counted, [D] when [G] the feeling's done.
You gotta know when to follow, know when to follow, know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never count your money.
[C] When you're sitting [G] at the table, [C] every time [G] I've counted, [D] [G] when the feeling's done.
[C] [G] Every time I've counted, [C] when [G] the feeling's done.
[C] Every time [G] I've counted, [D] when [G] the [C] feeling's done.
