How to Play Free Fallin' - Tom Petty (cover) - Easy 3 Chord Tune chords
Start Jamming...
Hey guys, Party Marty here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
[F] I've got another request from one of my subscribers.
I'm a big Tom Petty fan and this is a real cool strumming tune.
[B] Very easy tune and a very good tune for people to sing along to.
It's [N] very well known as well.
It's called Free Fallin' by Tom Petty.
Now Tom Petty plays it in the third fret.
I don't play it in the third fret.
I don't put a capo on it.
I leave it open because my voice is a little deeper, but it's the same way that it's played by the majority of people.
I've actually seen him play it actually with a B chord as well, out of B.
But anyway, a lot of times people capo it and play it the exact same way.
I leave the capo off, so I hope you guys won't [G] indulge me just because my voice isn't loud as his.
Nonetheless, [Abm] still a really, really good tune.
Now there's [D] three chords in the song.
And the first one is D.
And then [G] G.
I play it with a four-finger G and all that means is rather than the [Dm] regular shape there,
the baby finger goes on the bottom and the [Eb] third finger goes on the second string from the bottom.
And [B] then the first two fingers are [F] the same as any other G shape.
It's kind of like that.
Then there's [A] an A.
And that's pretty much all there is.
[F] Now you've seen some people probably play it [D] like a suspended little D.
[A] You can play it that way if you like, but I like to play the full [G] chords, both for learning purposes and I find it sounds better.
So again, I'll go through the cheat way there.
D, and then baby finger down.
And then baby finger down, baby finger up, and then [A] A.
But I like to play it with the full G, so it would be more [D] like this.
[G]
[A]
[Em] [D] I'll strum it [G] slow here.
[D]
[A] Again.
[D]
[A] I'll play it a little more.
[G] [D]
[D] [A]
[G]
[A] [D]
So practice that a few times and then speed it up and tackle the song along with us.
So again, great tune.
Tom Petty, free fall.
Let's give her a go.
[D] [A]
[G]
[A]
[D] She's a good [G] girl.
[D] Loves [A] her mama.
[D] Loves [D]
Jesus.
And America [A] too.
She's a good [G] girl.
[D] Crazy about Elvis.
Loves [D]
voices.
And a boyfriend [A] too.
[D]
[A]
[G]
[D] [A] [D] It's a long way.
A ribbon in [A] the cedar.
[D] There's a [G] freeway.
Running through [A] the yard.
And I'm a bad boy.
So don't even miss her.
[D] I'm a bad boy.
For a graveyard [A] holler.
And I'm free.
Free falling.
[G]
[D] [A] [D] Yeah, I'm free.
Free
[A]
[D] falling.
[G]
[D] [A]
And those vampires.
Walking through [A] the valley.
[D] The west.
[G]
[D] Ventura, [A] Boulevard.
[D] And those bad boys.
Standing in [A] the shadows.
[D] And the good girls.
I've [D] always [A] broken hearts.
[D] And I'm free.
Free
[A]
[D] falling.
[G]
[A]
[D] Yeah, I'm free.
[A]
[D] Free falling.
[A]
[D] I'm going to flag down.
Over [A] Mulholland.
[D] I'm going to write her.
Name in [A] the sky.
[D] I'm going to free fall.
Out [A] into nothing.
[D] I'm going to leave this.
[D] For [A] a while.
[D] And I'm free.
[A]
[D] Free falling.
[A]
[D] Yeah, I'm free.
[A]
[D] Free falling.
[G]
[A]
[D]
[A]
[D]
[A]
Yeah, I'm free.
Free [D] [G] falling.
[D] [A] Yeah, I'm free.
[G]
[A] Free [D] falling.
Yeah, I'm free.
Free falling.
Yeah, I'm free.
[D]
Free falling.
[A] [D]
[N] Tom Penny, Free Falling.
Really, really, really cool tune.
Very, very well known tune.
A lot of people love singing that song.
Who doesn't like to sing about [G] being free?
I mean, you know, it's a pretty cool little hook.
So, anyway, that's kind of a lower version.
So I could [Eb] sing it there.
And you know what, an average guitar player can do that one as well.
So, hopefully you guys enjoyed [Cm] that one.
Make [Abm] sure you go over to my channel.
Check things out over [Gm] there.
I've got lots of fun [Bb] tunes over there to play.
Trying to make them as [B] easy as I can.
Stripping them down.
I put a tune up [G] every Thursday.
So check that out so you learn something new every week.
