How to Play Lion Sleeps Tonight - Bill Joel version (cover) - Easy 3 Chord Tune chords
Start Jamming...
[E] Hey [Eb] guys, Barty Marty [Db] here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
[G] I've got another real fun party [Ab] tune.
This has been [Em] requested a bunch of times [G] by a bunch of my buddies there, so I hope you guys [Bb] enjoy this one.
[E] I longed [Bb] this after the Billy Joel version, but there's been so many [Ab] versions of this song.
[G] It's just a, you know, it's a real [Em] fun tune to [E] play.
And when you're playing [F] it single with an [Bb] acoustic guitar, [Ab] sometimes people don't expect it.
So you're going to have to kind of bear with me with the vocals.
I try to get as high [G] as I can.
It does make for the song if you can get up there a little bit, so.
[Bb] Anyway, it's called When the Lion [Em] Sleeps Tonight, [G] and I kind of modeled this [E] after the Billy Joel version, so.
[Bb] I do have a slap strum to this, so I'll get into that for you, but the [E] way I play it, it's pretty simple.
It's just three chords.
It starts in D.
[D]
And [G] then G.
That's a four-finger G.
You can play a three-finger if you like.
If you need help [Ab] with the chords, definitely click on my chord help there, and it'll let you know what a four [G]-finger G and a three-finger G is.
And then there's an [A] A.
The progression [D] actually goes D, [G] G, [D] D, [A] A.
[E] So again, [D] D, [G] G, and back [D] to your D, and [A] then A.
Now I do a light [E] slap strum with it just to kind of keep it going.
[G] It's just kind of like this.
[D] You can click on the slap strum link to give you a better explanation, but really all I'm doing is muting the strings with the count of the fat of my finger on every second down-strum.
And I'll slow that all down, so it kind of goes like this.
[G]
[D]
[A]
[D] [G]
And I find the slap strum just kind of gives it a bit of a drumpy.
[D] It kind of [A] adds to it a little bit, but it's definitely optional.
You [D] don't have to do it at first.
[G]
You just practice the strum, the chord [D] progression, and then add the slap strum when you feel [A] comfortable.
And then join us for the song.
When the Lion Sleeps Tonight, modeled after [E] Billy Joel.
I've got a guitar playing rather than a piano, so here we go.
This is [G] a real fun tune to play.
