We've been shooting videos over the last couple of days about modifying your guitars.
This is utterly, what's [Ebm] the right word, where you just do something without any [Ab] planning.
Spontaneous.
Beard just walked in and went, play that.
We thought, I just thought, you know what, as we've been talking about modifying guitars,
let's do it.
Padle did this.
Andy did it.
This is [N] a Chinese ML2, a really old one now to be honest, given that they haven't existed
for about three years, that must have been damaged or cocked up in some way in transit
and for whatever reason we decided not to sell.
And Andy, our most excellent, or one of our most excellent techs here, just decided, just
to see what would happen, has taken all the frets out.
I made it fretless, just filled it and made it fretless.
So before you get too excited, this is not a for sale standard Chapman guitar, this is
just perhaps something you might like to do, but this is what a fretless guitar sounds like.

[A]
[A] [E]
[A] That's really, really, really fun.
[E]
But everything is slightly flat, isn't it?
Because of the way you're so used to putting your fingers.
You've just got to be on the fret, haven't you now?
No, no, no, no, not at all.
If you put your finger on the fret, you're wrong.
Or on the fret where the fret was.
[E] [B] You can be slightly back.
[E] Really?
Yeah, a little bit.

[A]
[B] That's the best fun I've had in about the last hour.
Anyway, [Ab] there we are, a little pointless five minute video for you.
Do you want to go?
No, I'm good.
Are you sure?
Mate, you know you'd do some serious justice to this.
It's OK.
The whole of YouTube's calling you a pussy right now.
Listen.
[Gm] [Am]
[G] [Ab] [A]
[Ab] [C] It's not in tune, but it'd be really cool if it was.
[Am] [G]
[Em] [E] [G] Your turn.
It's in drop A though, mate.
Oh, that's fine.
I do everything in drop A, you know.
Hang on.
[C] [E]
There he goes.
That's all I wanted to do.
And you're right, it's completely out of tune.
[G] And there we go.
What an interesting [Em] device.
Concept, I don't know.
I always, I always, I always, I always, I always, I always, I always, I always, I always, I always,
I doubt we'll be bringing out a Chapman fretless any time soon.
I always wanted to do a semi fret so that the bass side would be fretted and the treble
side would be unfretted so you could get that fretted reassurance.
Don't they usually do that or something like that?
No, no, no, no.
Don't they?
No, it's only been done on some bass guitars years ago, but that, that, I shouldn't say
in the video because it'll go out and people will know what I'm planning or what I had
[A] planned, but basically that was [G] what the ghost fret was going to be.
The ghost fret was going to be [E] fretted and then unfretted.
So you could play your chords.
Yeah.
Then you go, whoo, zubah, with the lead.
And, um, but I never found a proper manufacturing [Eb] process for it.
Bit difficult to do.
Oh, every time I do that, it feels like I'm going to [Ab] literally slice my finger open as
well, doesn't it?
It's quite [E] disconcerting though.
That's the pussy, Gene.
That's true.
Very much.
And on that final fine note, [Bb] I'm the pussy.
Bye bye.
