Hi, I'm Glenn Rose and I'm going to play the Days of Wine and Roses for you in the key of F on my new
Riptide ukulele.
I'll tell you a little more about this very unique ukulele at the end of the video lesson here
I'm going to go through the song
Playing the chords only and singing it in my own fashion.
I'd like to play this song kind of slowly
And when I get done, I'll go through the chords
Step by step and show you how they're used in our jazz formulas that I use in the jazz ukulele book
This is my typical tuning.
It's as much as it's a beer ukulele
Baritone I've got soprano tuning on it with a low G
I like to put that low G on there because I like to play slow songs
Jazz tunes a lot and I think it sounds better to my ear.
You might want to try it out yourself
Okay in the key of F.
I'll give it a couple lead-in chords.
It'll look like this one of our typical [Bbm] patterns from the book
[Gm] [Am] the [D] [G] days
[A] Of wine [Fm] and [Bm] roses
[Bb] Laughs and run away
[Db] Like a child [G] at play
[A] Through the meadowland [F] toward [Bb] a closing door [Gm] a door [Db] marked
[Bb] [F] nevermore
[B] That wasn't [Bb] there before [Am] The [G] [Cm] lone
[F]
[G] Late night this closes
[Bbm] Just a [Bb] passing breeze
[Db]
filled with [G] memories
[D] of the golden [Cm] smile [F] that introduced [B] me to
[F]
The [Am] [F] days of [Gm] wine and roses [Am] [Gb] and
[A] you
[G] [A]
Okay, so the song it's pretty typically written with these chords
So I'm going to go through step by step
It starts with the the core all the chords are what we're using in the jazzy ukulele method book and that book is right [B] here
Jazzy ukulele you can order it online at
www .jazzyukulele.com
Let's start with the first chord.
It's an F6 9 looks like this play anyway [C] you want
frets 2 & 3 the day he's not get down to
[F] What's called an [A] E flat?
It's like an [G] E flat dominant.
It should be this
But [F]
it's a sharp 11.
You don't [G] need to know the name.
It's just those two strings
Of wine [Bm] and roses and it goes to a D
Up here on the fifth fret right from our book formula
[Gm] Laugh and run away G minor 7 right from the book now.
It goes to our first jazz pattern down here on the [Db] first fret
[G] [Ab] Through the metal and back [C] to the F again when we started on
[F] toward to a D minor 7 [Gm] a closing door
The G minor 7 here again now here comes a minor pattern down in frets 1 & 2 [C] door marks
Never more [F] up to fret 5 with a [B] pattern major pattern
That [Db] wasn't there [Bb] before minor pattern starting on fret 3
[Am]
Then repeats itself all that we did it repeats again starting on the first [C] the lone
[Db]
[Bm] Lane I discloses up to fret 5
Just [Bb] a passing breeze fret 3 this minor 7 chord filled [Db] with memories
[G] down to the major pattern
[A] back to the major chord of the golden smile fret [F] 5
Introduced [Em] me now.
It's going to go to a minor pattern on frets 4 & 5
[B] Now [F] we're going to [C] have up to the a minor 7 away up here the days of D minor [F] 7 wine and
[Bb] G minor 7 roses, then it finishes off.
This is a major pattern these last two [Am] chords and you
[C] [Cm] Just for an ending I go down to this [G] E flat
[Cm] [G]
[A] Okay, so there it is and you can find all those chords in the jazz ukulele series where I'm pointing out all the patterns to the songs
And this to tell you a little about this unique ukulele.
It's I like it a lot because it is extra portal
It's here for the players so when you're playing you hear it up in your ear more than
You would on a normal ukulele.
That's just projecting out through this one hole out front, and I like that a lot
[Ab] It helps me in noisy situations where I can really hear the instrument much clearer
And it's also got on board on board tuning quite nice
