Okay, I'm on a Dougie McLean rampage here.
So I just did Caledonia.
I might as well do his version of the Robbie Burns classic, Green Grow the Rashes.
They're not rashes on your body, they're rushes.
They're the green grass.
Anyway, there's a version on YouTube that I based this on.
I think his original version is capo on the second fret.
I guess as an older lad, his voice has gotten lower, so the capo is on the first fret.
And it's a dad-gad tuning.
D-A-D-G-A [B]-D.
Easy to look up if you don't [Eb] know how.
Nice open tuning, very modal.
And there's basically two parts to the song.
There's the intro, and it's the same as the outro.
And there's the verse.
And the verse and the chorus are the same chord.
So let's give it a shot.
[Ab]
[Eb] [Db] [Eb]
[Ab]
[Eb] [Db]
[Eb]
So that's the whole intro.
We'll do it again a little slower.
Hopefully you can see my fingers so I don't have to talk much.
It's easier to just look to see what somebody's doing.
[Db] These are the same [Eb] exact shapes.
So if I'm up on, since I'm capoed on the first fret, so I'm up on the fifth fret, and then
I go back down to the third fret.
I'm pedaling off of this low D sharp.
And so it's, then the next time it's this open, right?
And I'm sliding that up, and the [F] next time [G] I'm sliding [A] that one up.
So watch.
[Eb]
[Ab]
See?
[Eb] It's just that.
[D] [Fm] [Cm]

[Ab] [Eb]
[Db] [Eb]

[F] [Fm]
[Bb] [F] [Fm] [Bb] [Ab]

There's that turnaround before it goes into the [Abm] chorus or after every [A] verse.
[Ab]
So it's, instead of it being,
[Eb] the last [Ab] time it's just, [Bb]
[Ab] and there's an open note there
to give you some time to recover yourself to go back to the beginning.
[Bb]
[Ab] [Eb] [F] [Eb]
[Ab] [Bb]

Now this is the chorus, same thing.
[Ab] [F] [G]
[Ab] [F] [Fm]
[Bb] [Eb]
Green grow the rashes, oh.
[F] [Bb]

lift this one [Fm] up.
