GUITAR LESSON WITH CRAZ FROM SOULIVE chords
Start Jamming...
[F#] Backstage at Live Palooza with, in my opinion, and I'm not just saying it because he's right here, the number one guitarist on the circuit, Eric Krasno, aka Krazz from Soul Live.
[F#] So, I was gonna get a little guitar [E] lesson for you, from you, and I was gonna think maybe we'd include everybody out [F] there in cyberspace.
[A] I was just talking with G about a couple different chords [D] that I like to use.
One is really simple, and you know what I was talking about was, [Dm] a la Isley Brothers, what [D] I've been really into is [F] doing chords with the free pinky, [A] so you can [Dm] do the hammer-ons, [F#] right?
So anyway, [Dm] this one chord we were working with is like a minor 7th chord, which is basically like a minor chord, you take that away, you got the 7th, and you take away the 5th, right here, it becomes basically a stack of 4ths.
[A] So you can basically substitute that for a minor chord, [Dm] and then what's cool about it is that [Am] you can do that kind of stuff.
You can [A] tickle it.
So, [Dm] the other chord we were talking about was the minor 9.
They both go together pretty good.
[A] [Dm] And it kind of does the same [Am] thing to his
[Dm] And then you take that same chord, [D#] and you take [A] the bass note and move it to the [Dm] 6th string, it becomes a major 9.
So that would be a Bb major 9.
Nice.
It kind of looks like that James Brown chord.
Exactly.
[A] So basically, the James [A#m] Brown chord, you can still do that.
[A] Or the Led Zeppelin chord, the crunch, right?
[B] But originally the James [C#] Brown.
[D] And, uh, [A#] let me think of some other ones.
[A] Yeah, we're just doing chords today.
We'll be [D] back with [C] a lead lesson.
[F#] But, uh, [E] one of the, actually, a cool progression that people do a lot [Am]
is like the [B] 9th chord, James Brown [F#] chord, to this chord, which is basically 13?
[E] 13, yeah.
That's one of my favorite chords.
Yeah, that's one of your favorite chords.
Wait, did you get that from me?
[A] I may have stole it, man.
[E]
[Am] That's one of the [Em] only chords I know, man.
You never [G] know.
I never know.
I steal shit all the time, man.
[A] That's part of the deal, man.
Aw, yeah.
So that's basically going from D to G, [D] C to F.
You know what I mean?
It's basically just, you know, what is that, a cycle of fifths, right?
Right, right.
Which is a cool thing that you can do.
Any other things that you want to cover?
Well, how about, that'll be good for this part one.
