Hey guys, welcome to another lick [Bb] lesson and today's lick is in the style of one of my
favorite guitarists, Isaiah Sharkey, really phenomenal gospel [A] soul guitar player, he plays
for D'Angelo, [N] John Mayer and other people and he released a solo album which really
inspired me to just learn some of his stuff.
So let's start with the lick, it's in C minor [Cm] and the first thing we're gonna play is a
C minor 9 chord, so we play a little bar chord on the 8th fret starting from the G string
[Eb] and then we do a hammer-on [Gm] with our 3rd finger [A] into [Cm] the
[Eb] 1st fret, that's the first thing
we're gonna play, then [Gm] we go into the 12th fret, [N] we play on the G string 12th fret and
then we do a little bar chord on the 11th fret B string and 11th fret E string and we
do another hammer-on into the 13th fret on the high [Eb] E string, so both together,
[E] [Eb] so this
is actually in a version of the C minor chord, then we go to the [F] 13th fret and we play a
little bar chord on the B string and on the high E string and then we do a hammer-on into
the 15th [Am] fret, [Cm] so that's the first part, [Eb] [C] [Cm] [Eb]
[C] [Cm] [Eb] [C]
[Gm] then we play [Cm] the C minor 9 chord again [G] with the
hammer-on and then we just go down the [Cm] pentatonic scale.
[Eb]
[Bb] [Eb] Now let's [N] break down the second part of the lick and this is what makes the lick so interesting
in my opinion because he likes to combine different sounds, different scales, different
arpeggios and that is what makes his playing so interesting in my opinion because you really
get a special sound out of his creative ideas.
So you need this basic melodic minor shape
[D] and this basic major 7 arpeggio.
The first tone we're gonna play is on the 10th fret high E string, then we go into the
[C] 8th fret and then the [G] 7th fret and [C] [Db]
we go to the 8th fret [B] on the B [G] string and then we slide
from the 8th fret to the 7th fret on the G [Ebm] string, [D] it's a typical melodic minor sound
[C] and [Eb] [D] [Cm] [Eb] [C]
[Gm] then we play the [N] 10th fret and the 9th fret on the [C] D string.
[Bm] [C] [Eb] [B]
[Cm] [B] Then we [G] go to G sharp,
[Abm] we [Ab] do a little slide from G to G sharp and we play a basic G sharp major 7 arpeggio.
[Abm] [Gm] [Ab] [G]
[Ab] [G] [Cm] So that's the 11th fret on the A string, 10th fret on the [Eb] D string, 13th fret on [Ab] the D string,
then we do a slide from the 12th fret to the 13th fret on the G string,
[Abm] another [Gm] slide,
[Ab] [E]
[Cm] then we play the 13th fret on the B string, I like to do that with the same finger and
do a little bar right [Ab] here, [Abm] [Eb] then we play the 11th fret on the high E string, [Em] 15th fret
on the high E string [Gm] and [F]
finish the lick with the 13th fret [A] on the high E string.
