Hi, and welcome to my tutorial on how to play
Home of the Blues by [E] Johnny Cash on acoustic guitar.
The guitar is tuned standard.
E, [A] A, D, G, B, E.
[E]
[B] Now the intro of the song goes like this.
[A]
[G#] [A] [F#m]
[F#] [D]
[E]
[F#]
But in this tutorial we're simply going to cover the chords and the strumming.
If you want to learn that intro, go to my tutorial on YouTube
How to Play the Intro to Home of the Blues.
There's a link in the description below this video to [A] get you there.
So in this one we're going to start with the chords.
And the first chord is an A major chord.
[E] The second chord is an E major chord.
We [B] also need a B7 chord like this.
We're strumming that chord from the A string down.
And [F#] an F sharp bar chord like this.
And those are all the chords we'll need for the song.
We'll start with the main chord progression of the [F#m] song.
And it'll sound something like this.
[D#]
[F#] [E]
[A] Just around [B] the corner [E] there's Marty.
[A] [B]
[F#] [E]
[A] [B] [E]
[B] [E]
Just after we come out of the intro lead, we're going to go to an E major chord.
And we're going to strum it like this.
We're going to strike the low E bass note.
That's down, down, up, up, down, up, down.
And we're going to repeat that process throughout the song.
So that's down, down, up, up, down, up, down.
We'll use that strumming pattern quite a bit.
Next we're going to go to an A chord.
But first we're going to proceed it with these notes.
[F#] [G#] [A]
[E] The open low E string.
[F#] F sharp at the second fret on the low E string.
[G#] The fourth fret, G sharp.
Open [A] A.
And then we'll strum our chord.
[E] So it goes like this.
[F#]
[A]
[B] Then we'll go to our B7 chord.
Strum the A string.
And then go down, up.
And then move to the low E string, second fret, with the middle finger.
[F#] Hit the note.
[Gm] [F#]
Bend it and bring it back up like this.
[G]
[F#] And then we're going to go [E] to an open E.
And then [F#] we'll do our [E] E chord.
And then we'll resume that pattern.
[G#] [A]
[B] [D] [E]
And it'll sound something like this.
[G#]
[B] [F#]
[E]
[A]
[B] [F#] [E]
The next thing we have to learn is the bridge of the song.
And it'll go something like this.
[A]
It's filled with the sweetness [E] of melted,
[B] Melted.
The sweet [E] that I cried.
[A] Dreams that I had,
Left [E] me in heaven for bad.
[F#]
Tides of water filled the family [B] town and I.
[A]
For the bridge, we'll go to an A chord.
And strum it for four beats.
Like that.
Now when we play these chords, we're going to play the bass note first.
Down, up, up, down, up, down, down, up, up, down, up.
Just like that.
So we'll go to an A.
[E]
[B] B7.
[E]
Open, [F#] two, [G#] four, [A]
A.
[E]
F sharp.
[F#]
[B] B7.
And then we're [A] back to A.
[B] Now when we went to the F sharp, we strummed that one for six beats.
[F#]
Two, three, four, one, two, [B] B7.
Well, alright.
That's basically all you're going to need to be able to play
Home of the Blues by Johnny Cash on acoustic guitar.
Thanks for stopping by.
And have a great day.
