[N] [F] Greetings and blessings everyone, thank you for [Eb] joining me.
My name is Johannes [D] Lundstedt and this is the first of [Gb] hopefully many [C] future videos
to come where [Db] I'm going to instruct you on how to play a few of my songs.
Over the [C] years I've gotten many emails from people asking me for [Bb] tabs and sheet music
[Db] and classes [Bb] and what not.
So [D] I finally decided [C] maybe it's time to give some lessons [Db] on YouTube here.
[D] And [Db] today I decided to start [C] with Café Tropical.
A lot of people discovered me and this song through a video [Bb] game called Tropico [Dbm] 4.
[C] And they started calling me El Presidente [Bb] after that so I don't know what that's all about.
But anyways, [Gm] I'll let you hear a little bit of how I play [C] Café Tropical.
This is the main melody that's [Dbm] also done on horns on the recording but live I [A] don't
generally have [Ab] horns with me so I [Am] play it like this.
[D] [E] [D]
[F] [D] [E]
[F] [Dm]
[D] This is basically [Ab] based on just two chords.
The [Am] A minor chord [E] and the E chord.
A minor is made up [A] of an A, [C] a minor third which is a C, [E] and then a fifth which is the
E.
[C] The E chord [E] is made up of an E, [Ab] a G sharp which is the major third, [C] and [B] a B.
Now if
you want to [D] add the seventh in there, the seventh is [E] a D.
[Dm] So to play this I'm [Ab] doing what's known as double stops.
I'm playing two notes [C] at the same time.
The first notes are [Bb] following, if you know a D minor chord [D] you can add your [Dm] third finger
there and it's still a D minor.
[Em] If you move it up you've got E, up [A] two more you've got F sharp, [Am] up three and it becomes A minor.
[A] So if you just follow that [Am] form, you don't even have to [D] lift your fingers up, you just
[Am] go like this.
[C]
[F] [C] [Am]
[C] [B] Then I'm playing the B and an A on [Am] the second string, the twelfth [D] fret [Am] and the tenth fret.
[C]
[A] [B]
And then I follow an E chord, if you know [A] an A [Bb] that becomes B flat, that [D] becomes C,
that becomes D, move it up [E] two more, and you go to E.
Same thing, I'm just following that.
[A]
There I'm playing the A on the second string at the tenth fret and the G sharp on the [E] second string.
[Am] So the lower melody is then [Bb]
going [E] to the E.
[A]
[Dbm] And then [C] like I said I harmonize that.
So instead of starting on this note, now I start on this note, the E.
The E [D] is the fifth of the A minor [Am] chord.
[A] [C] So there's that same sort of D minor form moved up to an A and then I extend it [E] to the
high E [A] on the first string [Dm] and [Am] [D]
[Am] [D]
then I switch [A] to the E form again.
[E]
[Bb] And there's that seventh, the [D] D is the seventh of the E chord and that's all on the first string.
The [C] D, the C, the B, and the C.
[D] [C] [Am]
[Bb] [E] [D]
[C] Now if you want to harmonize it, [Db] you could do the form like this or like this.
[Am]
So I'm using my thumb [C] and first [Am] finger, playing two notes at the same time.
And then I jump up to the [C] thirteenth [Db] fret for the C and the [Am] twelfth fret for the E.
[Bb] And then, so that's basically a [C] major third.
From the C to the E is a major third.
And then I do a minor third, [G] B to the D.
[Bb]
[Dm] [Am]
[Dm]
[Bm]
[Am] [D]
[Am] [Bm]
[D] And then I follow the [C] E chord.
[E]
And I go to that [D] minor third again, the B and the D.
[Dm] [E]
[Bb] [B] [D] I'm just [E] taking that form, moving [D] it from fret to fret.
[Bm] [D] Here it's [C] a [G] B to a D.
[E] Here [D] it's an A to [Ab] a C.
[Bb] Here [Ab] it's a G sharp [Db] to [Em] a B.
[Am] These are all minor [E] thirds.
The only [F] one that's a major third is here.
[Am] [D] [E]
[Am]
[Dm] [E] [Dm]
[Ab] And that's pretty much it.
[F] So I hope that [Gb] helps and I will be adding more [E] to this [Bb]
in the future.
In [D] fact, I might go ahead and record the next [Dbm] part right now which [A] is
[Bb]
[Dm] [Bb] [E]
Alrighty, so stay tuned.
Thanks so much.
Many blessings.
