Lesson 20 / Sleepwalk in Key of C chords
Start Jamming...
Here's a song called Sleepwalk, an old Santo and Johnny song from back in high school days,
for me at least, which would have been in the late 50s, early 60s, I don't know exactly
what year it [G] was.
It's best played if you have either two guitars or a guitar and a bass, or a steel guitar
and a regular guitar or what have you, but [C] you need something giving you.
[Am]
[Fm]
[G]
[Eb] [A] [E]
[D] [Abm]
[A] [E]
[D] [F]
[C] [Am]
[F] [G]
[C] [Am]
[Dm] [G]
[A] [G]
[D] [F] [A]
[G]
[F] [C]
[F]
[G] [C]
[Dm] [Fm] [C]
[Em] [F]
[Fm]
[D] [C] [Am]
[Cm] [F] [Am]
[A]
[Ab] [G]
[Bb]
[E] [C]
[D] [D]
[F] [Am] [D]
[G] [Dm]
[D] [C] [Am]
[F] [G]
[C] [Fm] [G]
[C] [Em]
[E] [C]
Okay, now you won't probably find a Chet [B] version of that on any of his albums, [Dm] at least I don't
know of any album that has that on it, but he did play, I believe with Leo Kotke on Prairie
Home Companion, and I think they played that.
And Chet, I believe, just did kind of a one note version.
So this is a version I've worked up for myself.
I don't know the names of these chords, but I can tell you how to play it.
[C] [G] I start with a G, that's probably a G diminished,
[C]
C9, E.
[G] It's the same chord, I don't know
if it's still a C, I guess it's still a C.
[D]
[F] [A]
[E] [D]
[Abm]
[Eb] [C] [Am]
It's probably an A minor, and then [F]
I [G] [C]
[G] [Fm] [C]
[D] [D] call this the four speed shifter chord.
I have no idea what it is, but it's some kind of a diminished also.
But anyway, we're up on the sixth fret with our little finger on the B string, and then
the next string, the G string, we're on the fifth.
[Abm] And on the sixth for the B string, and then on the fifth for the A string.
[D]
And we're sliding that up a [Eb]
[Em] [A]
ninth chord again, [E]
[D] [Abm]
[Ab] [C] [A] [C]
[A] or [Am] down here, an A minor.
[E] [F] And that, we're playing [Dm] four strings, we're playing the sixth string [F] on the first fret
with our thumb, and then we're getting the second [Fm] third [Ab] with our first finger, and the
D string's open.
That's a steel guitar, F [G]
[C]
[Cm]
[F]
[Eb] minor.
[D] [C] [A]
[Em] And [Cm] then we [F]
[Db] [D]
have [G] [E] [A]
[G]
[Ab] [Cm]
a little weirdness.
[G]
[A] [F] [E]
[D] [F]
[A] [E]
[D]
[E] [C] [Am]
[F] [G]
[C] [F] [Ab]
[C]
[Am] [C]
[E] Actually, that's an E up there.
[C]
Okay, [G] enjoy that.
I've enjoyed it for many years and I still can't play it.
But just, we'll do [Gb] our best.
Thank you.
