I'm here with Hillsong Worship and we're talking about the song Love So Great from Let There Be Light, the new album.
Reuben, you wrote this song.
Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration, where it came from?
Yeah, well, I wrote this song with a couple of my friends in London, Josh and Jamie, and it was great.
I mean, probably what sums it up best is there's a line in the song that says,
How can I praise you enough?
And I've just been thinking on that, you know, and trying to,
you know, the thought that we'll need eternity and we'll get to the end of a billion years,
and still, like, I'll be on my face, trying to find a way to praise God,
because for all that he's done, for all that he is, for all that he continues to reveal to us,
and so I don't know even how you put that in a song, but that massive thought, you know,
that there is absolutely no limit to who God is in the revelation of who he is,
and we'll spend eternity trying to tap [N] that and praising him for it.
And so the song really is kind of out of that thought.
And the bridge goes, Not to us, [A] but to your name.
We give all the glory.
And like, how can we take any glory when we have a God so great and so amazing?
Yeah, that part, the bridge there is real anthemic, and the church really gets behind it when we sing it.
It's beautiful.
Nige, can you run us through the song and how you play it?
Okay.
Sure.
So the song was recorded in the key of B on the album,
but for the sake of today's demonstration, we'll do it in A.
So we've got the capo on the second fret, and again, playing it in the G [E] shape.
[D] This song, again, the space is pretty important to get the rhythm right.
So in the – we'll pull apart the verse and the chorus.
So in the verse, [A] those [D] chords, so it's the four, the one on three, and the five.
So I'm playing it with reference to the electric guitar line with the rhythm.
[A]
And in the pre-chorus, [G] it [A] changes.
[F#m]
[E]
[G#] And the chorus, it's almost like a half-time feel, and again, it's important to get this right,
otherwise it's going to sound like wrong and almost country.
So if you listen to what [F#] the drums do on the album, [A] it's like a [F#] – [F#m]
[D] [A]
is [F#m] there anything you want to add to that?
Maybe just the instrumental.
There's like a little riff.
Oh, yeah.
Instrumental?
Yep.
Yep.
Three, four.

[A] [F#m]
[G#] Yeah, that's beautiful, and it really builds in that section.
I love that part.
