[G] Hi guys, today we're going to be focusing on [A] boogie woogie right hand riffs.
Now this is straight from the late great Albert Ammons.
Come round here to the right [G] hand camera person.
And this is, I've taken this from Bass Going Crazy, but you can just take one riff and make a complete boogie out of it.
Now watch this.
It's a short riff, it [E] goes
It's a nice riff there.
[Bm]
[Bbm] [Am] [Eb] [N] That's the riff.
Now I'm going to play it one more time so you can get it and then I'm going to show you everything [G] you can do with it.
So here we go.
Get that.
[Gm] And then this, that's kind of like an augmented fourth [Eb] I think.
That's a major [E] fourth so you just go up a semitone.
The B flat and the E natural.
[Gm] So, [Bm]
[Bbm] [F] [G] then down in thirds one more time.
[Gm]
That's the tricky one.
[G]
[Bbm] And then down [Am] thirds.
[G] And what you can do, just stay there camera person, if you just put the chop in the left hand, you can just make a whole boogie woogie out of it.
[D] [G] [A] [G]
Stay there.
[C]
[G]
[Am] [G]
[G] Now that's [B] almost like a complete boogie woogie in [G] itself.
What do you think camera person?
It certainly is.
And that's just one riff from Bass Going Crazy by Albert Ammons.
Now come over here to the right hand again camera person.
Now I'm going to make it a little bit more complex.
So again, first of all, the first thing you have to do is just get that riff.
[Gm] And then that augmented fourth is the tricky one.
And [G] [Gb] [Am] [G]
[B] all I'm doing when I go up to the fourth chord, [C] I'm just putting a B flat there.
So I'm just going, so he's changing [Dm] it slightly and putting in a few trills and you can do [D] something like this.
Start off with a kind of de-augmented, hit on tremolos.
[G]
[C]
[G]
[Am]
[G] [A] [G] Now we can go a bit more advanced.
[C]
[Gm]
[Am] [Dm]
[Gm]
[G] [Gm] [G]
[C]
[Gm] [C] [Gm]
[Am] [Dm]
[G] [Gm] [Dm]
[G]
[Gm] [C]
[G] [Gm]
[Dm]
[Bbm] [G] [C] [D]
[G]
[C]
[Gm]
[B]
[Am] [G] [Am] [G]
[Gm] [C] [G]
[C] [Gm] [C] So
[Gm] [C] [Gm] [G]
[Dm]
[Gm] [G] [C] [Eb] [G]
you see we've made a whole kind of boogie woogie.
I know I did a few [B] advanced improvisations there, but it all comes back to [Bb] this riff here which I nicked from Bass [Dm] Going Crazy.
I mean I varied it a [Eb] little bit, but essentially the whole root of that boogie woogie which I did there, just improvised it [G] was,
[C] [Bm] [Bbm] [Am] [Eb] I mean [D] that's basically the whole root of the boogie which I just did there, which I just [G] improvised.
[Gm] [G] [D] Just put the chop [G] there in the left hand like that.
And before you do all the advanced stuff, just simply do [N] that.
If you say you can't do all the fancy stuff, just simply just play it really really [G] straight.
Just
[A] [G] do that.
Just play that.
[C] See what I [G] mean?
So you don't have to kind of play a [Abm] whole load of fancy boogie riffs, but just see if you can just play that [C] straight boogie woogie and all we've done is create a whole boogie woogie [A] just by using one [E] riff from Alvin [N] Ammons.
And that's what I call the magpie technique, which I go into more detail in my amazing book, The Ultimate Guide to Badass Boogie, which is in Volume 1 of the Badass Boogie Bundle.
I do hope if you're following these lessons you do have the Badass Boogie Bundle sheet music download.
