How to play Hammy's Boogie Woogie.
Now if you're a long time visitor to this YouTube page, you know that [Gbm] Hammy's Boogie is probably one of the first [N] boogies that you've learnt through studying these videos.
And Hammy was my, really my only boogie woogie teacher who I had when I was about 16, 17 years old.
He died back in 1999.
Hammy Howell, H-O-W-E-L-L, he used to play with a 1970s pop band called Darts, D-A-R-T-S.
And he was the piano player and he taught me boogie woogie when I was about 16 or 17.
And the first boogie woogie I learnt was from Hammy, called Hammy's Boogie.
And I'm going to revise it [F] because I know we've got a lot of newbies to the channel.
And even if you're an old timer, let's [Ab] revise Hammy's Boogie and see if you can play it.
Now come over, first of all to the left hand.
Now, [D] what's great about Hammy's Boogie is how simple it is.
[G] First of all in the left hand it's [C] just the chop.
Now if you don't know how to play the chop, go to lesson one of how to play amazing boogie woogie piano.
If you don't know how, but that's the [G] chop.
And it goes up to the 4 and 5.
Now in the right hand, [Gb] which is what we're going to concentrate on, I'm going to do Hammy's Boogie itself.
And as I said, this [C] is the first boogie woogie I learnt and I want you to be able to play it too.
And if you can play it, apologies for the repetition, but let's do it anyway.
Here we go.

I'll just play the E [C] flat when I come to the 4.

And that's the essence of Hammy's Boogie, but then I kind of go into a more [G] extended version.
The extended version.
So, camera pass, just come a bit more.
We'll just kind of extend Hammy's Boogie.
[B] We've done the main section of it, [G] but you can kind of vary it.
I'm going to do a little bit of a variation on it so you can see what it sounds like when played as a full boogie.
