In this song we go back to the classic knights in white satin from the
Moody Blues and in this lesson we're going to [N] depart a bit from our typical
strumming patterns and I'm going to show you a little bit about finger picking.
_ Finger picking can be a nice delicate balance between the strumming if you
want something that's light and gentle and sensitive you can do the finger
picking style and in fact in this song we're going to vary it.
The verses will
be finger picked and the choruses will be strummed.
Now let me just do the
chorus first and I'll show you [D] what happens with that.
It's in 3-4 time,
three beats to the measure.
We take the back of the nail _ going down, the flesh
part of the finger going up and we go down down up _ _ down up.
[G] So the whole
pattern [D] is down down up down up.

[Eb] So on a D chord and you
might recall I like to play my D this way bar the second fret little finger [Ab] on
the fifth fret of the first string.

to this pattern is that the index finger only plays the second string the middle
finger only plays the first string.
So these two fingers are assigned to these
two strings index fingers on the second string _ the middle fingers on the first
string.
The thumb will alternate between the fourth and the third _ the fourth and
the third.
The first [Fm] part of the strum the thumb plays [Ab] the fourth string the
second half of the strum the [Gb] thumb plays the third [N] string and the pattern is
pretty simple you just play [A] thumb _ _ middle finger excuse me index finger and
then middle finger.
