It was it was it was an amazing experience because
To be in a studio with this track
With one of my all-time heroes
It was a big pressure to get it right and I just felt the obligation
To Michael to do the absolute best I could and I spent hours on it, you know, normally I can do a track pretty quickly
But I really took my time with this track and and I'm really glad I did
I flew into England to be with my children and I got a call from
Michael's producer John McClane and John Nettlesby and
They asked me if I could
Play on this [G] track and I said I can only do it in London
because I was there to see my children and I had to go to Russia after that and
So we booked a studio there and I came in with my little mate in 808.
They [Abm] downloaded the track
With Michael's vocal and click track
Some guide string and piano parts and a guide guitar part, which I thought [A] was very nice
[Abm] [Dbm]
[E] [Bbm] [Bb] When [Ab] I first heard the [E] original rhythm
Guitar part which is an island stream
All my instincts said this is the perfect part and I was right that's what they ended up using
But there you go.
That's the kind of things that happened
[Bm] [E] So first I read the rhythm part which is nylon string and
Played that to them.
They liked it and then [Gb] they asked me to do a little solo [E] on the nylon [F] string
[Dbm] So I did that then asked [B] me to do steel string so they had that alternative [Dbm] so I did that as well
[E] [A] [E] [Gbm] [E] Hey John, it's Tommy
[C] It's going okay
And then John [Ab] Nettlesby asked me if I would do a version of it with just Michael's [F] voice in my guitar
Which [Ab] I did as well a nice kind of groove to it underneath his vocal
But it but doesn't get in the way of the [E] vocal and I've been
Really honing at the last couple of hours and really [N] working on it
Okay
And who knows they may use that down the track, but in hindsight, it's probably a [F] little heavy-handed [E] for that beautiful delicate vocal of his
[B] [E]
[Em] [N] All the stuff that I spent all those hours doing and trying to perfect for them and make it right for the track
They ended up not using him pretty much all of it
They what they ended up using on the final mix was what was right for them the solo in the song
The first part of it's a harmonica and then it's my acoustic guitar my mate
[Gb] And then I did some little harmonic [Eb] runs at the end of the song.
[E] That's all I ended up using
[B] It [Em] [E]
[C] [N]
was [E] a great honor for me to be asked to play really really
Appreciate that so [C] much and I [E] would have done anything to make a Michael [Em] Jackson track sounds good
[E]
