Roy Orbison with Blue Bayou and this is a per request of Big D199499.
I bet Raggy watches this one.
I know he's a Roy Orbison guy.
[Em] We want to tune standard for this one and [G#] there's some [G] finger picking the way Roy is
doing it and here's the parts we're going to learn.
[E]
[G#m] [F#m] [E]
[F#m] [E]
[B]
[E]
[B]
[E] Ok, so let's come in here, let's lower this so you can see what's happening and what you
want to do is start with, it's basically E major here, index 1G, 3rd finger 2D.
There's a reason I'm going 3rd finger on that.
On your picking hand, you'll be holding the pick but use your middle and 3rd finger, stick
them together like they're glued together and you're going to pluck the D and G.
Now getting the volumes [G] even is something you're going to want to work towards.
One finger may be a little louder than the other and that's why I'm saying picture them
stuck together so whatever force you pluck the D, you should be plucking the G as well.
You're going to pluck those [E] and slide it [A] to [G#] 2G, 4D so it's splitting and that's why you
want to use this finger rather [G] than this and then you've got to stretch [G#] further.
So you'll pluck, [E] slide.
[F#] Once you get there, pluck again, slide that [C#] whole shape a whole step up to 6 and 4 [G#m] and
then go, you're going to pluck again, go 1, 2, 3, 4 [F#m] and slide it back a [E] whole step.
[G#m]
[F#m] Once you get there, pluck it and [E]
[G#m] [F#m] then pluck again, slide it back to the 2, 1 and [E]
that's
probably going to be the trickier part and then 1, 2, 3, slide it back to 4, 2, pluck
[G#m]
[F#m] [E] [F#m]
and [E] then just go right back to the 2, 1 and go 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3.
It's still stuck together.
Okay, so that's the intro.
Verse comes in, you go to E major, that's 2A, 2D, 1G.
It doesn't sound like he's hitting the low E in there.
If you do, it's not the end of the world.
It's primarily A, [G] D and G and probably occasionally the open B in there and [E] here's the strum
pattern, [B] down, down, up, down, down and you're going to do that 4 times [E] and [B] then the same
strum over a B7, so go 2A, you're already there, 1D, 2G and an open B.
They're not putting the, Roy's not putting the F sharp on it, at least in the version I saw.
This is going to be 8 times of that same strum.
If you watch the video, you'll see his thumb up here.
It's not pushing an F or an F sharp down, it's muting the low E.
Sometimes people do it that way or they'll touch it with the middle finger, that low
E.
It's up to you.
But I would mute it so you don't accidentally get this problem.
One bad note will spoil the whole chord, trust me, most of the time.
Well, if it's a bad note, every time.
There [G] is no E in the B7.
Do that 8 [B] times.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and then back [E] to the E major and you'll go 2 times of that strum pattern
and then 1, 2, 3, 4, rest and then the whole progression starts over, not the intro but
the verse where Roy is singing.
[B]
[E]
[B] Okay?
And that's most of the song.
But anyways, if you have
Hey, I chopped my head off.
I forgot about that.
That's better.
That's better.
So anyways, if you guys have questions, let me know.
Thank you for the request.
And I was looking to do some more acoustic stuff because I've been getting a lot of emails about that.
I thought the Roy Orbison would be acoustic.
But this is electric.
But it's still, [F] for some of you old [B] timers, man, that like Roy Orbison, boom.
