Okay, I want to show you how to do the brother is drum
For that very famous medley of songs that he's that he did the whole world knows by now
Somewhere over the rainbow and what a wonderful world.
[Db] I think a lot of people have
Some confusion about how to emulate that strong because they haven't really gone over the basics and that's what I'd like to show you right
Now the first first of all the chords I [C] see
for the introduction [Em]
e minor [Am] a
minor
[F] F [C] I'm sure you know at least that much C e minor [Am] a minor [F] F
[Eb] Now whenever you strum down, it's called a down from or downbeat or down stroke
Okay, whenever you show them up up stroke upbeat
Down strokes down beats always [C] follow numbers.
So one two, three
four [G] up stroke up these are called [C] and so one and two and
four and
For those of you who know music theory those would be eighth notes.
This is a quarter note one two
Four eighth notes one and two
[Em] So whenever you're trying to learn any strumming pattern
It's always really important to keep that hand going up and down because there's pretty much no strum that you can't do
Or emulate just doing up and down.
The key is called ghost [C] strokes
So for example instead of doing this
[Em] That [Am] doesn't
[F] sound very musical right so [G] ghost strokes
You're mimicking the motion of going up or down strumming the strings up or down
But you're actually avoiding hitting the strings.
[C] So for example
one and two and three and four and I
Made a motion of coming up and hitting the strings, but I didn't actually hit the strings
so all you heard was one two, three four or you can do
Except for the [G] first beat I played all up strokes right because the downbeat the down strokes were
Go strokes.
Okay, so
By placing the ghost jokes in the right places
You can emulate what what is doing and what he's doing is
[C] One and two and three and four and one and two
Three and four [Em] one and
three and four and [G] one and two and three and
Okay
Now you probably noticed that I have a low G string and so does but it is
That's the key or one of the keys to getting that distinct sound
Because you can do the strumming pattern and I'm about to show you with the high G on your uke
But it just won't have the same sound trust me.
So the first concept is ghost [C] strokes
[Em]
[Am] Okay,
[F]
so we're getting closer right so the [G] next step is to on beat one you're doing a down stroke
But now instead of hitting all the strings, I want you to just hit that low bass note
Try to avoid hitting the other [C] strings.
You're invariably gonna hit some by accident, but no biggie.
So one [Gm] one
One see just try [C] to hit that low string one
one
two and three
One two and three and four
Sorry one [Em] and three and four and one and
[Am] One two three and four and one and
[F] One and two and three and four and one two
Okay, [Eb] so so far [C] you have this
[Em]
[Am] [F]
[C]
[Em] [Am]
[F] [N] Okay, that sounds pretty close right now the last step that you got to do to really achieve that sound is on beat three
What's beat three a down stroke, right?
So normally you'd be coming down in this case.
It's a ghost stroke
but what I want you to do is
Stop the strings from ringing on beat three
So test the palm of your hand or the side of the bottom side of your hand to the strings
Stop the ringing that [C] counts as a down stroke.
So one and
Three and four and one and
Stop and four
[Em] One and two and three and four and one
two and stop and
Okay, [C] so then we have this
[Em]
[Am]
[F]
[Gm] okay, doesn't that sound like it so at
half speed [C]
[Em]
[Am]
[F]
[C] and regular speed
[Em] [Am]
[F] [C]
[Em]
[Am] [F]
[C]
[Em] Hope that makes sense.
Hope that helps if you have any questions, please feel free to
