Hello it's me the ukulele teacher here to teach you how to play a new song by Ed Sheeran.
So grab your uke, make sure it's in tune [Am] and get ready to play Thinking Out Loud.
So in this song there are just three chords all the way through all of the verses.
The first chord you'll need is the chord of D.
To play D put your first, second and third fingers on the second fret of the fourth, third [D] and second strings.
And D should sound like this.
[G] To play the chord of G put your first finger on the second fret of the third string,
your second finger on the second fret of the first string
and your third finger on the third fret of the second string.
And G should sound like this.
And to play the chord of A put your first finger on the first fret of the third string
and your second finger on the second fret of the fourth string.
And A should sound like [A] this.
In the [Em] chorus there's two additional chords, the chords of E minor and B minor.
To play the chord of E minor put your first finger on the second fret of the first string,
your second finger on the third fret of the second string
and your third finger on the fourth fret of the third string
and leave the fourth string open.
And E minor should sound like this.
And to play the chord of B minor bar the second fret with your first finger
and put your third finger on the fourth fret of the fourth string.
For a bit of additional support you can also put your second finger on the third fret
though it won't make any difference to how the chord sounds.
B minor then should sound like [Bm] this.
So as I said the chords all the way through all of the verses are just D, G and A.
The important thing then is the strumming pattern.
Now the strumming pattern that I'm playing is down, up, down, up, down, up
but [D] it's all in the rhythm.
I'm playing two slow down ups and one quick down up.
Let me show you on the D.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
And [N] in fact the pattern that I play all the way through all the verses is
down, up, down, up, down, up on the D
then down, up on the G and down, up, down, up on the A.
[D] Let me show you.
[G] [A]
[D] [G]
[A] And that pattern there works all the way through all of [Em] the verses.
So after the verse we move on to the chorus.
There's four lines in the chorus and each line starts with E minor A.
The first line is E minor A D.
The second line is E minor A.
The third line is E minor A B minor.
And the fourth line is E minor A.
People fall in love in mysterious [D] ways
[Em] Maybe just the touch of [A] a hand
[Em] Me, I fall in love with [A] you every [Bm] single day
[Em] I just want to tell you [A] I am
[G#] And then after that chorus [G] you go straight back into the D, G, A for the second verse.
Now you've got the [Bm] verse and the chorus there's just one more section that you need.
And maybe we [G] found [E] love right where we [D] are
And that's just the five chords that you've used all the way through the song.
One chord, one downstroke per word.
The chords are and maybe B minor [G] D G [F#] B E minor A [D] D
We found love [Em] right where [D] we are
You play that line once [N] at the end of the second verse
and then you play it three times at the end of the song.
So now you've got those three sections just check out the link below to download a song sheet from my page
and you can put the whole thing together and play it in its entirety.
