[F] [F#]
[G] Hey everybody, welcome [Am] back to another lesson, welcome back to [G#] another tutorial.
Today we're doing a [F] song.
It's a song called Bowl [A] No.
7 by the Devil Makes [A#] Three, Foot Stomp and Barnburner.
[G] Excellent band.
[Cm] They rock, they [G] roll.
[Cm] Really my favorite band in the world right now.
I [C#m] listen to them every day.
[G] [F] Can't get enough of them.
This song is really easy on a [D#] ukulele and it's really good maybe if you're kind of breaking
out of the shelf with [F] open chords and moving to bar [Am] chords, alright?
So first, grab your uke, [G#m] grab your ears, [G] and let's break this one down.
Alright, follow me.
[C] Alright, first things first.
I like to start from the beginning, our chords.
We have a B minor.
[Bm]
[F] We have an F sharp [F#] major.
[A] This is one that you might not have played that often.
In the key of A, F sharp minor is a popular [B] chord.
[C] We're in the key of B minor, so we'll be playing F [F#] sharp major, okay?
Now, F sharp major, [N] you'll notice, is just like your F.
Slide everything forward half
a fret and use your index [F#] finger to bar.
And [F] we have our trusty E7.
[E]
[G] Now, this [C] progression is just going to go, it's going to bounce from [Cm] B minor to F sharp
major to E7 to F sharp major.
And that's the whole song.
But the rhythm is going to be a little difficult.
So what I want [G] you to do is I want you to fret the B minor, and you're going to go,
play it once [D] muted.
So you just lay this finger on here, but don't push.
[N] So you're not fretting your chords, you're just kind of laying it on like a blanket.
[A]
And [G] down.
Hear that muted sound?
[C] Then we're going to go down again, but this time we're going to play the chord.
[Bm]
[G] [Bm] [A] And that, we'll call it mute down for this lesson.
[Bm] Mute.
[Cm] Now, that's going to happen four times on the chord.
So you're going to go [Bm] mute, down, mute, down, mute, down, mute, down.
[Am] I'm just [A] playing with my index finger on my right [G] hand.
[F] Now, after you do that, you're going to slide up a half [D#] to that F sharp,
take your middle finger [F#] down and fret it.
Same idea.
Mute, down, mute, down, mute, down.
Four [D] times.
So let's put it together like this.
[Bm]
[C] [F#]
[A] Okay, you can count it mute, down, mute, down, mute, down.
But when I'm playing it, I usually count it like this.
[Bm] Mute, one, mute, two, mute, three, mute, [F#] four, mute, one, mute, two, mute, three, mute.
Now, [E] your E7, your third chord, you have open strings.
So the mute doesn't work.
So we're going to get our [B] thumb involved and we're going to change up the pattern a little bit.
It's [E] going to go [G]
[F#]
[E]
down, down, up, up, down, up, down, down, up, up, down.
[F#] Right back to F [E] sharp.
So down, down, up, up, down, up, down, down, up, up, [C] down, up, mute, down, mute, down, [F#] mute, down, mute.
[D] Now, that's the whole [G] song.
It's just one [Dm] turnaround.
That's the intro, that's the verse, that's the chorus, that's everything.
[G#m] [F] But when you start to [Bm] get comfortable with this, [Cm] you can add a little, with the mute, a down, [F#] up.
[Bm]
[F#]
[Am] [E]
[Fm] [F#] [F]
[G] [A] Okay, you see what I did on that F?
I'm going mute, up, [C#] mute, [F#] up, play, mute, up, play.
[C] But I'm also doing [E] the same strum pattern from the E7, the down, down, up, up, down.
[F#] So I went.
[N] So feel free to kind of play with it.
But the first thing is first.
Try [Bm] just that basic.
[F#] Once
[E] [C]
[F#]
[Am] you have that down, then try some embellishments, all right?
This is a really good strumming [Bm] exercise.
[Am] [F#]
[E] [F#]
[Bm]
[Am] [F#]
[Am] [E]
[F#]
[Bm] [C#] I'm only using two patterns, all right?
Every now and then I'll throw in an extra up.
And the only other pattern is that same E7 pattern.
If you do the [Cm] same pattern [Em] for the E7 over the B minor or [Bm] the F sharp, [Cm] then you kind of get some cool [Fm] results.
Because otherwise, it can get monotonous.
If you want to add a [G] break, you can only play the [F#] actual chord and skip the mute.
Like [G] one, play, two, play, three, play, [F#] four, play, five, play, six, [Am] play.
[E]
[F#] [G] But those are all extra [A] ideas.
Start with your B minor, F sharp, E7, F sharp.
That four [G] chord turnaround [D#] repeats the entire [F#] song.
[G] All right.
[C]
All right, I told you.
[Gm] Easy and rocking [N] and rolling.
Some really cool chords, some really [G] cool ideas.
A really great song.
[Gm] I hope you enjoy it.
Go ahead and play [G#] it.
Keep practicing.
Keep listening [Gm] to it.
Go out and buy the records.
They just came out with a new record, Devil Makes Breathe, Stranger.
Excellent record, excellent music, and it all sounds good [C#] on the ukulele, all right?
[G#] Keep [G] playing.
[G#] [C] Hey, what's up, everybody?
Welcome back to another tip-tip.
