hey, there is the work song.
And that was written by [Am] Nat Adderley.
[C#m] And I think I first learned it by listening
to the Paul Butterfield blues band.
So that was a long time ago.
I was like in high school when I learned this.
So I think for me, this was an entry level song into jazz.
And I think it'll work well for a lot of folks
that are trying to bridge the gap between jazz and blues.
So it's got that shuffle, it's in a minor key.
It sounds jazzy.
Plus we've got the stops.
And it's just a cool song to play.
Now we're gonna learn it in the key of A minor.
Nat Adderley did it in [C#] F minor.
And Cannonball Adderley, F minor, his brother.
And they just smoke on this song, by the way.
So, but we're going to,
we're gonna learn first the single note,
then I'm gonna show you how I like to play it in octaves.
It's a couple of little tricks to playing it.
And you're gonna get this track,
which is with actually live musicians.
And so it's kind of a little more exciting
than a band in a box track.
So we're gonna play it through twice.
Then we have three choruses of solo.
And then we play it through twice at the end,
just like I played it now.
[F#] Later on, we're gonna work on some,
maybe some soloing ideas to it.
And we're gonna keep it simple,
because I've got a lot of F [B] minor, or excuse me,
[C#m] minor blues solos and riffs and everything.
But a lot of it gets hard pretty quick.
And I wanna keep this a little more easier to understand.
So I think we might do some developing
[F#] of some ideas with this.
So I'd advise you to learn the song.
It's a 16 bar song, but when it comes to the blowing,
it's easier just to go into a 12 bar blues, minor blues.
Now, guys do different things with that blues.
And I think Cannonball does things a little differently
with the blues progression.
But we're gonna just go ahead and do a minor blues
in A minor for the soloing part,
which will be covered on some other lesson.
First, let's just get into the melody.
So I hope you enjoy this.
And like I said, with this lesson,
you're gonna get the track, the octaves, the single notes,
and with the PDF.
[Cm] So here we go.
