Welcome back, folks.
Here's Double D, [C] Darryl Dodd, with the story and performance of [F] his fan [G]-favorite tune,
Back to the Honky Tonks.
This song here is called Back to the Honky Tonks, and I wrote it [C] with a good friend of mine named Brett Beavers.
He and I actually moved to Nashville together.
We went to college together here in [G] Texas and played in [G#] several bands together for about four or five years,
and then we both moved [G] up there.
[F]
And [C] we wrote it about, you know, the Friday, Saturday nights, [F] like we still do.
We play [Em] these
[Dm] roadhouse dance halls, [Am] and our favorites are the ones that are way out in the country
where you don't see lights anywhere [A#] but the hall, the [G] honky tonk, whatever.
[C] And there's a gravel road parking lot.
You've got to wash [Am] your car after you've been to it, you know.
So the honky tonks [G] mean a lot more to [F] me than what it may [C]
to people, you know, just [F] saying the word.
[G] It may have a bad connotation.
[F] For us, we're, [C] you know, on the weekends, we're getting back to the honky tonks,
[G] getting back to our roots and good [F#] friends and having a good time.
