Hey, this video is going to show you how to play a Led Zeppelin song and I guarantee in 10 minutes is so simple
There's five parts to this song
And it just works on mandolin very beautifully I think so the song is ten years gone
What I'll do I'll play the whole thing through first all five parts
And then I'll break it down and show you each bit very very simply, but it's an extremely easy song to play
Okay, so the five parts together sound like this, and then it's just repeated over
[Dm] [E]
[C#m] [A]
[Dm] [A] [B]
[F#m] [Em] [B]
[A]
[Dm] [Em] [A] And then it just goes back to the
[G] So five [Am] parts so easy ten minutes time you want to be playing this [G] first part
That open [A] a shape open a chord.
I mean you can play an a chord in some ways on the mandolin
[B] But the open a [A] with ringing strings
So you've got the [G#] G string on the
[A] Sixth fret the D string on the second fret
And then you put the middle finger on the fourth fret for the G string
Okay next bit you just slide that shape down
This comes down to the seventh fret
[Dm] [E] So from the second to the third fret on the D string [A] so you go again
[Dm] slide
[E] bringing strings
[A]
[Dm] [E]
Now the second part
You could take your first and second finger on the G and the D string.
That's the two heavy strings
[G#] okay, and you [D] place it on the
[C] sixth and the seventh [A] fret
G and D
Okay, and then the third thing you leave a fret open and you go to the
[C#] Ninth fret
Okay, so that shape then two fingers there
G and the D string and then the a string with it with an open fret [A] between them
You [E] slide that down so that the middle finger [F#m] goes to the twelfth fret
[Bm]
And then [F#m] backslide and then one more slide down two frets
[Em] So you keep that shape [F#m] look
[Bm]
[F#m] [Em] [D] So that second part it really is just one shape, but you're just moving it to three different places on the [C] fretboard
So think of the middle finger there on the seventh fret for the [F#m] first one
Slide that middle finger down to the twelfth fret keeping that shape
[Bm] Back up to the same place
[F#m] And then up two frets
[Em] Okay, so that's the second part the third part [E] is that lovely little riff
I've got to do it quickly
[Am]
So it's second fret on the D string
[G] down to the fifth
Okay, and then on the a string on the third fret
Third to the fifth fret [Am] so and then the E [C] string on the first fret and then [E] open.
Oh, there's an open
So [A] after those two first notes, there's an open a string
[E]
[Am] Okay, and then you go to an open a string
And [D] [Am] then the third part
Is that the third no it's the fourth part is now the fourth part is the first [D] finger on the [Em] a string second fret
and then the fourth fret
[C#m] one finger [E] playing the E string as an [B] open ring in string and
[A] Then you move [F] to the D string again one finger playing the a string as an open ring in string
[A] Sliding down [F] so you put on the fourth and the fifth and slide down to the seventh
[D] [Dm] Let's slide back up to the fifth
[G] [F] [E]
Now put those two bits together.
They do sound quite effective and
[B]
[F] [Dm]
[E] [D] Then the whole [A] thing just plays through again with a new verse
Look at the parts
[Dm]
[A]
[E] [Dm]
[F#m] [Bm] You
[F#m]
[Em] [B]
[F] [C] [Dm]
[A] It's so easy isn't it and yet sounds lovely on the most wonderful
