How to Play "Don't Do Me Like That" by Tom Petty on Guitar chords
Start Jamming...
Alright,
[F] we're doing a little Tom Petty, don't do me like that.
[C#]
A little Gainesville accent, [G] a little Tom Petty.
And chords are super easy, they're going to be G [F] to an F [C] to a C [D] to a G.
[E] Okay?
And the rhythm is [C#] going to sound like [G] this.
[F]
[G] [D]
Okay?
And [G] the G is cool, we'll do [F] that.
The F, he kind [G] of keeps the G in there as [D#] well.
So we can do an [F] F add 9, which is 3rd fret on the D string, 2nd fret, 1st fret, [Cm] 3rd fret
with your pinky.
So you keep the G in there.
So we [G] could go.
[C] And then the C, we're going to do C add 2, which is basically a barre chord, 3-5-5, 3rd
fret on the A string.
3-5-5.
And [G] then we're just going to do 3-3 from here.
And then the [D] D is a normal D.
I mean, 5-7-7-7.
[G] Okay?
So [C] F add 9, C sus [D] 2, D.
[G] [C]
This is the whole verse.
[F]
[D] [G]
[E] [C] Okay?
So you keep [D] one D and that brings us to our chorus.
[G] Okay so super easy, basically the same beginning of the verse.
So it's going to be the chords are going to be G, [F]
F add 9.
You know these two back to back.
[C] But instead of the C and then the D, we'll save those, but we're going to add an E minor
[Em] 7 chord, which is open [E] E, 2nd fret, [Em] 2nd fret open, 3rd fret with your pinky open.
So that'll be our 3rd barre.
We'll use that chord.
And then in the 4th barre, we'll fit the C and D [C] together.
[D]
[G]
[Em] So E minor 7, then [C] the C, [D]
D.
[G] Just repeat that.
[F]
[Em] E minor 7 and [D] D.
[B] C to D.
And that is the chorus.
And that brings us to our [G] bridge.
It's just going to be G, C.
[C]
[G] G, [C] C.
[G] Repeat it a third [C] time, C.
And then we're actually going to stay on the C, but we're going to turn it [Cm] minor.
Which means we'll just add our middle finger on down on the 4th fret of the B string.
And then we [D] go to D.
So the 7th and 8th bars [Cm] of the bridge are C minor, [D] and then D.
But 1 through 6 are just G to C.
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[Cm] C minor [D] to D.
We actually hold the D out an extra [E] barre.
[G]
And then back to it.
Let me teach you the cool riff, and that's about it for this song.
So, everybody knows that one.
[D] So here we are, 7th fret of the G string.
[E] We're just going to hammer on the 9th fret, and [Gm] then land on the 8th fret of the B string.
Don't do me [D] like that.
Don't do me like that.
Sometimes he hits it twice.
Holdin' a baby.
You listen to the outro of the song, he plays it like 10 billion times.
[G] Ah, so awesome.
So great.
[F] Great, simple guitar [D] parts.
