[D] You know Rancho Alto, the 2011 release from Jason [G] Bolan and the [D] Stragglers, was another
[F] really [D] solid effort from one of the best bands in the Texas music scene.
[G] And one [Dm] standout tune from that [G] album [D] was False Accuser's Lament.
False [G] Accuser's Lament [D] is one of those songs [Gm] that [Dm] I was writing it and it [Dm] was almost [G] finished
[D] [Bb] when it came [D] together that it could be a [G] backstory to the Long Black Vale.
[D] [Gm] And [D] I think the song stands on its own, but I never really [D] agreed with all [Dm] the way the
Long Black Vale went down.
I always thought it was a great song, [D] but I thought, now let me get this right.
[Dm] He's dead [G] and the [C] best friend doesn't [F] know about it, what [Dm] happened, and she [G] walks the
hills on the [D] Long Black Vale.
Oh, how tragic.
You know, I just, I needed something else.
[G] And my [Dm] story went ahead and [D] gave it how [A] I see the [G] world working a [D] lot of times, which
is, no, somebody knew and they wanted it to go [Dm] this way and they set it up and everybody
else is just pawns in it.
As with a lot of my tunes, then it was a bunch of ironing out and making sure, okay, well
does this word, [D] doesn't contradict anything and, [G] you know, figuring out all the details later.
[C] [Am]
[G] [Dm] [G] [G]
Said I'd seen killing and [Am] could identify the villain
[C] Who shot a [D] man beneath the town [G] hall floor
[D]
[G] I was one of few, [Am] the jury never knew
[C] Lied to line [D] our pockets [C] with the [Bm] banker's jealous [G] gold
He said his loving woman's sinned, [Am] let alone with a friend
[C] He couldn't have [D] his children's [G] mother's shame
[D]
I [G] saw shooting run, [D] it [Am] could have been anyone
But [C] for the price of [D] a new plow, [C] a [D] local man [G] was framed
[C] Now the nightly taber is [G] the portion to be paid
[D] I hear the guilty gavel, [G] I see his [D] body sway
[G] Father, please forgive me, for [C] I falsely [Am] testified
They had [G] me swear upon [D] the Bible and [G] I lied
[D] [G] [Am]
[G] Never strayed from the Lord, [Am] but the pain of being poor
[C] Lord, what [D] the hell came over [G] me?
[D]
[G] This ain't who I'm arrayed, [Am] another dollar, fear and slave
[C] But the thought of losing [D] all our land [C] was [Bm] blinding [G] to see
Now [C] the nightly taber is [G] the portion to be paid
[D] I hear the guilty gavel, [C] I see [D] his body sway
[G] Father, please forgive me, for [C] I falsely [Am] testified
They had [G] me swear upon [D] the Bible and [G] I lied
[C]
[G] [D] [Dm]
[C] [D] [Am]
[G] [C] [Am]
[G] [D] [G]
Seedhood on its own, [Am] soon the crops were nearly grown
But [C] the rain let up [D] and the ground turned hard [G] of nails
[D] The [G] banker took my home, and [Am] now I'm in this hell alone
[C] Oh, from time to time I [D] see his wife [C] in a [Bm] long black [G] veil
[C] Oh, how the nightly taber is [G] the portion to be paid
[D] I hear the guilty gavel, [C] I see [D] his body sway
[G] Father, please forgive me, for [C] I falsely [Am] testified
They had [G] me swear upon [D] the Bible and [G] I lied
