Hi, I'm Lou Barlow.
[F] I'm from Dinosaur Junior, [Gb] Cebido, full conclusion.
[Bbm] I'm here at Amoeba [Ebm] Records and they've been [Bbm] kind enough to let me pick out some [Gb] records and put them in my bag.
[Ebm]
[G] First thing I found is this.
[C] It's Blotto.
I'm not sure [D] where they're from.
I think it's like New York State.
This record [Eb] was on college radio when I was a [C] very young kid when I was first [G] discovering new music.
And there's a song called I Wanna Be a [C] Lifeguard on [D] this record, which is [E] awesome.
[D]
[Em] [A]
It's really [Bb] funny.
They were kind of [G] a joke band, kind of a New Wave joke band.
Never saw them play, [F] but I'm really psyched to have this record.
[Em] This is one of the only real new ones I [G] got, but I've been curious [E] about this guy.
Everybody loves him.
I don't [G] know, Tysegal.
[E] I figured a singles compilation was a good place to start.
It's a double record.
Comes with a digital download.
Psyched about [B] that.
[A] [E]
[Em] This is [E] Evergreen.
They are from Louisville, Kentucky.
[Am] The drummer [Em] was in Slint.
It's a group of guys from Louisville, a lot [Am] of really talented musicians.
They all kind of [E] drifted from band to band and they all kind of alighted briefly as [A] this band, Evergreen.
Who opened up for [E] my band, Sebedo, back in the day and blew us off the stage.
[C] [E]
[A] A [C] really incredible, kind of soulful, [E]
kind of very spare record with like [C] rockin', like we've got a really great rockin' vocalist.
It's a pretty lame description, but [E] it's a really good record [C] and you really should hear it.
And it's only eight bucks, so no one knows about it.
[G] This might not be a great record, but it is one [Cm] of the first records that I ever bought.
I've long since lost it.
I sold all of my records to buy hardcore records [Bb] back in 1981, 1982.
This was one of the victims.
[Fm]
[G] This band, The Elevators, were actually from Northampton, Massachusetts.
I'm from Westfield, Massachusetts, where I grew up.
They were a new wave band that got signed to Arista Records.
[Gm] So this thing was like as a [A] cutout with this exact [Gm] sticker on it all over at every [G] record store where I [Eb] lived.
And I saw it, it was [C] just kind of like the Blotto record, like [Eb] you've got to have this.
It's like this is a little piece of [D] my musical [Cm] history, you know, and a little piece of my regional past as well.
Now this, this song is [E] called Major Tom.
It's a German artist.
It actually came out as a German version, obviously in Germany and Europe.
[B] But this song, you'd know it if you heard it.
It's [G] great.
It has the chorus, it's, Earth [C] below us, drifting, [G] falling.
[D] [Am] [G]
[D] [C] This song is so [G] good.
And I [D] finally have the English version of it.
[B] This is a record that I absolutely adore, and I haven't gotten it on vinyl yet.
Today, this is one that I was really looking forward to finding today.
[Ebm] It's Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
This record probably [Gbm] came out two years ago.
I've been listening to it [B] ever since.
[B]
[Gb]
It's a great record, totally [B] interesting band.
They've got another record out now too, titled Unknown Mortal [Ab] Orchestra 2.
Now this, I'm actually in this band.
This is an employee pick at Amoeba Records.
Now [Bb] usually employee picks at Amoeba Records scare the shit out of me because they're always like, it's kind of experimental, it's too cool for school stuff.
I always buy a bunch of it and I get it home and I don't like it.
But this, [Gb] this is [Bb] my band.
This is my band, The Full Composure.
It's our first album that we put out.
It's one of my favorite [E] records that I've ever made.
I [Bbm] only have like, I think, I'm not even sure if I have a CD copy of this [Bb] record.
That's me back in [Gb] 94, something like that, [Ebm] a while ago.
[Bbm] Moolah, lights are fancy, my brother's [Bb] getting, calling on the phone.
Would you ever do another Full Composure record?
Well, this guy, John Davis, he stopped talking to me a long time ago.
[Gb] I mean, we didn't have [C] a fight or anything, we just kind of split.
But he's got [Cm] a new solo record coming [E] out.
And I had to get this because I got kids.
[G] [Em] [B]
[G] Put [F] your arms down when you get to school.
[D] My girlfriend told me, like, we gotta [E] get this.
[C] You know, it's a Christmas story, everybody loves [F] it, it's really funny, right?
Everybody knows all the scenes from it, it's great.
He heard it from your son!
[G]
[Gbm] And [G] since Amoeba has everything, I got that too.
So that's it.
[C] [Am]
I'm still living with [F] you.
[G]
[F] I'm from Dinosaur Junior, [Gb] Cebido, full conclusion.
