Okay, so we're going to talk about how to play the chords to Stormy Monday.
And as I said in the post, first [G] thing is, you really want to stay away from these big
barre chords.
It's too big.
It's obnoxious.
It gets in the way.
It walks all over [B] everybody, makes it noisy and loud and chaotic.
And if you've ever been to a jam night, and you'll find that some groups of people get
up and they sound really good, and other groups of people get up, [N] and it's just noisy and
loud, and a lot of times it's because they're [G] bashing along on these giant, these big barre
chords that are just obnoxious.
These nice little chords, these little three-note chords, provide a base for any sort of melody going on.
Let me just demonstrate a little bit.
Pardon my singing.
They call it Stormy Monday.
That's obnoxious.
[B] How about [G] this?
They call it [E] Stormy Monday.
[G]
[E]
But Tuesday's just as [A] good.
[G] [Ab]
[Gb] You see what I mean?
[G] The [B] voice is on top of the chord.
[G] Okay.
So, [E] moving on, what I talk about in the post is, instead of playing, for example, an A
minor like [Am] this, or an A minor 7 like this, like Clapton does in the video I put in there,
I would recommend playing it like that, nice and pretty.
Now, you can get loud with that.
Of course you can.
But it's a lot more balanced than this.
It really provides a nicer foundation for whatever else is going on.
[N] So I'm going to play it once through and leave it at that.
[Gb] And then you guys can get to work on it.
So here we go.
[G] [F] [Gb]

Here's my [C] G7, C7, [C] D7.
Now, one thing I love to do [G] in Stormy Monday is build it up to that.
Maybe I'd start down here, [Abm] but then at some [B] point work it up to here.
[Gb]
[E] [Am]
[C] [Am]
[G] [Dbm] [Bb]

[E] [B]
Now, here's where it gets nice.
You get to the [Am] climb, jump down here.
And hear [Bm] how that just changes the mood right away.
[Bbm] Right at the best time of the song.
It's really awesome.
