What's up everyone, it's Mike here from the Art of Guitar.
We're gonna have some fun today
I'm gonna show you all the different levels of
Seven Nation Army because we're kind of on this kick right now where I want to take a riff that everybody thinks is very
Simple and show you that there's different ways to play them or that there's different levels to them
So it's a great riff.
It goes back
It's kind of a throwback to the simpler riffs of the old days and they're just catchy
You find yourself singing it all day.
Alright one way I see people playing.
This is just the single note
[Em] So some people will go the [C] [B]
[Em] [D] [C] [B]
problem with it though
Is that it's an octave too high because he uses an octave pedal to simulate a bass
I believe in the studio you never know what this guy and so if you want to add the octave pedal
I'm just using a boss super octave
It can sound like this
So if you hit that pedal it can replace your bass player just so you know
Okay, some people when you ask them to play it, they'll just play it with power chords with distortion
So this is more like when it kicks in and there's a lot more sound happening
[E] So they play it like this
[Em] [C]
[B] So [Em] [D] [C]
[B] [E] I hear that version a lot because a lot of beginners love power chords right away because it sounds so big so they'll just
Play it like that and it sounds pretty cool
The next version that I see some people catch on that there's some higher notes going on during that chorus part
so they'll actually do more of a barring with their ring finger and
Sometimes they even ignore the low octave and they'll just do the bar.
So it's like this
[G] [E] [C] [B] [E]
[D] [D] [C] [B] [E]
That's great.
If you could bar across and slide it's a great exercise
And then of course we have to add the old
Slide barely caught that.
So now do that same thing that barring idea just with a slide
I [D] [C] [B] [E]
[C] [B] thought that sounded pretty cool the first [Ab] time I tried that another version of this is
actually retuning your guitar to [E] open a e a e a
C sharp e
Now what you could do is you could take the slide and use it across all the strings and it sounds huge.
[D] I
[C]
[B] [E] [D] [C]
[B] [A] [E] [A] Love that sound because when the guitar is tuned on open tuning you get a lot of sympathetic resonance happening
Because everything's every string is resonating with another [E] string
And the final level that I'm able to pull off is going to be the same thing
We just did open tuning slide, [Ab] but we're gonna add some some drums to it
So what I like to do is I like to do the first part which is [E] the kick drum and then when the slide comes in
Add the snare drum.
I'm just doing this with my feet
So this is kind of a bonus level if you want to get crazy think it's something like this
[D] [C] [B] [E]
[C] [B] [E]
[B] It's
A full-body experience.
So like I said, we're just having fun with this riff
There's so many ways to play it
But those are the different versions that I've seen people do before and yes
I've seen someone do that on stage with the drums and everything
The only thing you're missing now is that ride cymbal hit so I just have to grow another limb to do that
Or maybe I could hold the drumstick in my mouth and head bang on the ride or something Who knows?
Hopefully you had fun with that one and I will see you soon with another levels video or another versions video
