[A#m] Welcome to New Song Cafe at worshiptogether.com. I'm Vicky Beeching and today I'm joined by
[F#] Texan worship leader Chris Tomlin.
Chris is going to share [G#] his song, How Great.
So sit
back, relax [C#] and enjoy this webisode at worshiptogether.com.
Chris, thanks so much for coming today.
Thank you [E] very much.
We're going to hear your song, How Great Is Our God.
Why don't you tell us a bit about
the story behind the song.
As usual with a lot of the songs I have, it just starts with a very simple chorus and
I always feel like, oh it's too simple, [C#m] it's too easy.
This chorus just came out, How Great
Is Our God.
I thought, [F] Lord, even though I was [E] apologizing to God, I was like, that's
so simple.
But that's the only words I know right now.
It's [A#] only, like our English language
only goes so far into saying how great you are.
[G#] I remember playing it for some people
and they're like, that [E] chorus is so good.
I really want to sing that chorus.
The verses
aren't very good.
It's good to have honest people in your life.
We kind of did the verses
and Louis really challenged me.
He's like, what if it was more hymn-like and there really
wasn't much payoff for [F#] us in it.
It was just all about the greatness of God.
[E] So I'll play
a little bit.
Yeah, that'd be [C] great.
This is the chorus.
How great is our God.
Sing with [Am] me.
How great is our God.
And all will see how great, how
[G] great is [C] our God.
The splendor of a king, called the majesty.
Let all the [Am] earth rejoice,
all [C] the earth rejoice.
Cause he wraps himself in light.
[Am] And darkness tries to hide.
And
trembles at his voice.
Trembles at his voice.
How [C] great is our God.
Sing with me.
[Am] How great
is our God.
And all will see how great, [G] how great
[A] is [C] our God.
In the name of love, all
names.
[Am] You are worthy of all praise.
And my heart will sing [A] how great is our [C] God.
How
great is our God.
[Am]
Wow.
That's amazing.
That's so simple, but yet so powerful.
Yeah.
I think the beauty of the song is that [G#] pretty much one time through when you sing
the chorus, people have got it.
Do you want to just show us the chords real quick?
Yeah, it's a [C] very simple chorus, just in key of C.
And just a little musical thing I'm
doing is just as you move the chords down, [Am]
[D]
it's pretty much that progression the whole [C] way through.
Same for the [C#] verse as well?
Same for the verse.
It's a great song.
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing it.
Absolutely. Thank you.
Thank you.
[A#m] Thank you.
[F#] Thank [G#] you.
