Hey, what's going on?
It's Jen from allhollow.com. I'm going to teach you how to play Fix You
by Coldplay.
This is a really pretty song.
I think I got a little bit of a tear listening
to it this morning during the chorus.
Maybe a little bit of a tear.
Maybe I just had to
sneeze or something.
I don't know.
I'm not [C] that emotional.
[E] But we're going to put the
capo on the third fret.
[Eb] I am very emotional [N] on the inside.
I don't show it on the outside.
Sorry, that might have been a little bit too much information for you guys.
Let's just
stick [G] to playing guitar and not talk about my emotions.
Capo, third fret.
[Eb]
Really pretty
song.
Easy.
We're going to start with a C major chord.
Two beats.
Now just lift off
your first finger and we're going to go to C major 7, which is really pretty.
It adds
a nice little color to it.
So [Gm] C major 7, A [Cm] minor to G [Bb] major.
[Eb] Keep repeating that.
[Cm]
[Eb] C,
[Gm] C major 7, [Cm] A minor.
[Bb] Okay?
That's your verse.
That's pretty [Eb] easy.
I like that.
Let's go
to the [Ab] chorus.
We're just talking about lights.
F, 2, [Eb] 3, a quick C on [Bb] 4 and then G for 4 beats.
2, 3, 4.
[Ab] 1, 2, 3, 4.
You're going to do that a total of 3 [Ab] times.
Oh, I forgot that C.
1,
2, [Eb] 3, C, [Bb]
G.
2, 3, 4.
[Ab]
2, 3, [Bb] 4.
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb]
Okay?
Now [Gm] we're back into the verse.
We're going to go verse,
chorus, I think verse, chorus again and then it starts to rock out, which is my [Eb] favorite
part.
We're going to go C.
I guess we just consider this the bridge, but it's kind of
like an instrumental.
The guitar comes in and I'll show you how to kind of comp that
guitar line that he's doing because he's just doing a single note thing and I can [Ab] show you
how to do it with the chords and it makes it sound super, [Eb] super cool.
So we've got C.
Now he's going to all down strokes, eighth notes.
[Ab] F, C again
[Bb] to G.
[C] [Cm] Then A minor, same
thing.
[Ab] F, [Eb] C to
[Bb] G.
So you're just really replacing the C with A minor and the rest is the same.
So we've [Eb] got C, [Ab] A [Eb]
[Bb] [Cm]
minor, [Ab] F, [Eb]
C.
[Bb] [Eb]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Gm] [Bb] [Cm]
[Eb]
[Bb]
So to get [Eb] that kind of guitar line, put your pinky on the
first string.
[Ab] Same with the F.
Oops, [Eb] [Eb] back to C.
Now you're doing [Bb] your G and [Bb]
put your
[Eb] first finger on the second string, first [Bb] fret.
Same with the [Cm] A minor.
[Eb]
[Bb] And this goes, this
progression goes [Ab] on for like, I don't know, six [Eb] years or something.
[F] [Cm]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Bb] And we're going to
end with the chorus.
[Ab] F, 2, 3, [Eb]
C, G, 2, 3, [Ab] 4.
F, 2, 3, C, G, 2, 3, 4.
F, 2, 3, C, G,
2, [Eb] 3, [Bb] 2, 3, [Ab] 4.
F, 2, 3, [Bb]
2, 3, 4.
[N]
And Tyler from mojalo.com just walked in and he's harassing
me for some reason.
I think he's not happy with what I'm doing.
Oh no, he says he is
happy with what I'm doing.
He's just not particularly happy with my hair, I think that's what it
is.
It all comes back to my hair.
He said I look like the Munsters, some guy from the
Munsters, which is not really a compliment.
But I've heard worse.
Heard that I look like
Rufio from Hook.
So why don't you Google the Munsters and Rufio and you let Tyler from
mojalo.com know if you think I look like the Munsters or Rufio.
This lesson has gone awry,
but you get the idea.
It's a great song and I hope you enjoyed playing it.
