[Bbm]
[Eb] [G] This is the guitar lesson for Lou Reed's Perfect Day, the easy way and the correct way.
I [Am] want to dedicate this lesson to Lou Reed who passed away yesterday at the age of 71.
[E] Lou, you gave us tons of great music buddy, so this one's for you.
Alright, make sure your guitar [Gm] is in [E] standard E tuning.
[G] Take your capo, put it on the first fret like so, [D] and this is the intro of the song, okay?
It's E, A minor, E, [F] A minor, so it's [Bbm] A minor, [F]
E, [Bbm] A minor.
[G] Then it goes into the verse which is just a [Bb] perfect day, so it's A minor, [Bbm] [Eb] D, [Ab] G, [Db] C,
[Gb] F,
[Ebm] D minor, [F] D, so you hold it for a couple of counts, [G] then we go into [Bbm] A minor.
Just [Eb] a perfect day, [Ab]
feed animals [Db] in the zoo,
[Gb] then [Ebm] later a movie too, and [F] then hold, D,
O, [E] and then this is where the chorus comes in, so it goes,
[Bb] O, it's [Eb] such a perfect day, [Dm]
I'm gonna spend it [Eb] with you.
[Fm]
[Bb] [G] Okay, so for the chorus it's [Bb] A,
[Eb] D, [Fm]
C [Dm] sharp minor, [Bb] [Eb] D, then it does this little thing where it goes,
[Cm] [Bb] [Eb] so it's a D, use your pinky then to hit the fourth fret [D] A string,
[G] and then I use my pointer finger to hit the second [C] fret A string, it's like a walk [Bb] down to A.
[Eb] So it's D, [Cm]
[Bb] K, [Ab] okay, then, [Bb] O, it's [F] such a perfect day, just gotta [Gm] keep [F] me [Eb] hangin' on.
[D] So that second part of the chorus is [Bb] O, A,
[F] E, F [Gm] sharp minor, [F] D, [Eb] D,
[Db] [Gm] alright, F sharp minor, [F] E,
[Eb] you play that part twice, alright?
[Fm] So [A] let's talk about that [G] really quick, I'm gonna go through it [Bb] really quick so you can [N] see
without me talking or without me saying stuff, you can [Cm] see what it sounds like, okay?
[Bbm] So
[Eb] [Ab]
[Db] [Gb]
[Ebm] [F]
[Bbm] [Eb]
[Ab] [Db]
[Gb] [Ebm]
[F]
it's, [Gm] then we go into the [Bb] chorus.
[Eb] [Dm]
[Eb] [Bb]
[F] [Fm] [Gm]
[F] [Eb] [Gm]
[F] [Eb]
Okay, [G] the next part I wanna talk about is [D] the instrumental, okay?
The,
[Bb] [Fm]
[Cm] okay, that's the little fill that I [G] kinda, it's on piano but I made it for guitar,
so it's on the eighth and tenth fret on the E string, and we [Fm] go, ten, eight, it's basically,
[Bb] [Fm]
[D] so it's these two notes the entire time, ten, [C] eight, then we go down to this B string on the [Eb] eleventh fret,
and then back [Fm] to the eighth, [C]
then back to [Bb] the eleventh, [D]
[Gm]
[Fm] [Gm]
[G] hopefully you can pick that up, okay?
And that's during the instrumental break, which the chord progression for that is F sharp [Gm] minor,
[F] C, [Eb] D, [Gm]
so [F] [Eb]
[E] F sharp [Ab] minor, E, D, okay?
And finally, the last part of the song is, [G] you're going to reap just what you sow, okay?
So, that chord progression is basically this, it's [Bb] basically, A, [Fm] C [Dm] sharp minor, [Ab]
G, [Eb] D,
then we do our little D walk down, [C] [Bb] A, [Dm] C sharp minor, [Ab] G,
[Eb] D, [F] [Bb] [Eb]
D,
[Bb] [C] I'll do that again, I messed up that last [Bb] D, so, A, C [Dm] sharp minor,
[Ab] G, [Eb] D,
[D] [C] [Bb] [Eb] so, [D]
[Bb] there it is, [Eb] so,
[Bb] there it is, [Dm]
I'm [Ab] [Eb]
[Cm] [Bb] [Eb] [Bb]
having [Eb] some trouble, [Gm] [Bb] there it is.
So, the song kind of fades out with that final chord progression I just [Fm] showed you right here,
and [C] [F] that is the [G] entire song, so I hope you've [C] enjoyed this lesson,
