So here's [D] a basic version [B] of the [Bm] famous [Bb] reel, The Silver Spear.
[B] The [Bb] feature of the tune the way I learned it is the opening phrase [Dbm] has a board triplet in [Gb] it,
[D] which keeps recurring and that
[Ebm] recurrence kind of sets up the rhythmic [Bb] frame for the whole tune.
So the opening phrase, [D] [Gb]
[Bb] [Gb] so there's our first phrase with [D]
the [B] board triplet to start.
[Gb]
Then the second phrase, [D]
[Bb]
it's more or less [Gb] the same but it ends with that B-A.
[D]
[Bb] Then the [D] next phrase is [Bb] very similar to [D] the first except it has a little [Ebm] rise up at the end.
[Bb]
So [D] once you have the basic version of The Silver Spear, of course it's a lot more fun if [B] you can put in a few
[Db] embellishments and ornaments etc.
So [Bb] I'll give you a few ideas and [Bm] hopefully a little bit of insight [Bbm] into how I play the tune.
So here we [Bb] go.
After the board triplet [D] section, for
[Bm] [Gb]
the ending I [Ebm] often play double [Bb] stops.
[D] [Bb]
[Gm]
So [D] here I've got a D and a G, [Bb] sometimes I play a B [B] and a G.
[Bb]
[D] [Em]
And then [Gbm] I usually play the open E on [E] its own and then an F sharp and an [D] open A.
[Bb]
[D] And sometimes, like I [B] did there, I leave the D, the third finger D in place.
