So the Banshee is a well-known reel.
It has a few different titles, but I always known it as the Banshee.
The Banshee, the word
refers to a ghostly figure who
traditionally appears
when someone has died.
So long as that somebody has
O or Mac in the name.
She follows the Os and the Macs.
So if someone's called O'Grady or McDonald
after the death, you can expect to hear the Banshee
coming.
Usually at night and she has a ghostly cry.
So somebody thought it might be an idea to name a reel after her.
So here we go with the Banshee.
I'm going to break it down into smaller phrases and play a little bit on the slow side
so you can pick up on it.
So the first phrase of the Banshee sounds like this and then we move on to the second [Bm] phrase
with a couple of pickup [B] notes
[G]
and with the pickup notes it would sound.
So
once you're familiar with the basic version of the tune, you might want to add a few embellishments and a few variations.
So I'll give you a few ideas now of the kind of things I might do.
The first note, the G, sometimes I play a long note.
Sometimes I play it as two notes.
If I play it with two notes, I often put in a little grace note.
[B]
That E to G, I sometimes have a triplet and [D]
[G] then on the way back down [Bm] we've got the two Es.
