_ _ _ _ So this tune is called the Kesh Jig and it's a tune I first learned in
_ County Sligo from a lot of the local musicians there
_ Since Kesh is a place from that part of the world, a small place in County Sligo _
_ But _ it's a tune you'll hear a lot now played in sessions
_ Because it was popularized
_ By the Buffy band a group I used to play with back in the _ 70s
The Buffy band recording of this tune became very influential
But of course, I'm here on my own right now.
I'm not with a band.
So you're just gonna hear the fiddle version
But I'll strip it down to its basics, so here we go
so _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
those two phrases kind of _
Are counterparts with each [G] other and _ _ _ [A] then the second one [G] and _ _ _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ [D#] then that's followed [G] by
So _ _ [D] _ _ [C#] _
[Gm] _ _ _ _ [F#] _ [Bm] _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ [D#] we have _ [Bm] _ _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ [D] _ _
and then the first part continues in much the same way.
So the the basic
_ notes of the Kesh Jig
Are not too complicated, but what makes it an interesting tune is what you do with those basic notes
_ _ _ We have a selection of long notes that we can shorten
decorate and change slightly
_ _ [G] But mainly we make an effort to bring out the strength of the tune
The strength of the tune is already there in the in the basic version
It's just a matter of how to enhance that _ _
And I'll show you a few of the things that I do
That I think hope to make the tune come alive a little bit.
So
_ that [A] _ _ [G] _
_ _ opening phrase
_ I would probably put a rule on the first G
_ _ [D] _
_ And [G] then the long A becomes ABA [Bm] so [Gm] instead of
[Am] Put [F#m] _ _ [D] _
[G] _ [C] [B] a rule on the first [G] note
[Bm] _ _
And then the A becomes ABA
_ _ _ _ [G] _ [F#m] _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
