How you doing today?
This is Bobby doing a demonstration lesson on Windows Are Rolled Down by Amos Lee.
I'll go ahead and do a demonstration.
My guitar is in standard tuning with the capo in the first fret.
After I do the demonstration, I'll break it down and show you how to play it.
[F]
[Ab]
Look [Eb] up, child, the world is born.
[Ab] Your shoes untied and your soul's all worn.
[Db] Windows are rolled down and the sun is [Ab] setting high.
[Eb]
[Ab]
[Db] Windows are rolled down and I'm fixing [Ab] to die.
Okay, that's the whole song right there.
It [D] is a difficult [Bbm] chord progression.
I've never done [Eb] that before.
It is fun.
A little practice, you can get it down.
The reason I have my [N] capo in the first fret is because Amos Lee actually tunes his guitar up a half a step.
So if you want to play along with the performance, at least that I saw on YouTube, that I learned it from,
which I'll try and put a link up on this video for you, you would need a capo in the first fret.
For the lesson, I'll go ahead and take [Bb] it off for those of you that don't have a capo.
All you have to do is put the capo on and play the same chords the way I'm showing you.
[N] Basically, this song has two chords, just repeats through the whole song.
He does play them a little different on the last verse, so you need to go ahead and listen to the video
and figure out a good strumming pattern for you.
But the basic two chords we're using in this song, the first one is a G chord.
The way we're going to play this G chord is we'll take our middle finger, put it on the top string, third fret.
We will take our pointer finger, second string down, second fret.
We'll take our pinky finger on the bottom string, third fret.
We'll take our ring finger, put it on the second string up, third fret.
[G] It looks like this, and it sounds like this.
Now, when Amos Lee plays this in the song, he [D] hammers on.
I actually don't even think he puts his pointer finger in.
So you could play it without that, but I like to play it with it in there.
That's the G chord.
But you could play it either way.
You can hammer on with this, [A] or you can hammer on with both of [G] them.
Now, [B] as he plays that, he hammers [G] on here, and [D] then he takes his pointer finger,
and he leaves these [N] two fingers where they're at,
and he takes his pointer finger and he hammers on on the third string down, [D] second fret.
[Em] So [D] it looks like this.
[Em] And then he lifts his pinky finger up again to the third string down, but this time in the [G] fourth fret.
And it just repeats like that.
And then he sings with that chord progression.
Again, it's just a G, and he's hammering on some different notes in with that G.
And when he sings, it kind of goes something like this.
Look up, child, the world is born.
Your shoes untied and your soles all worn.
Windows are, and then it switches to the C chord.
[C]
Now, the C chord, the way you [E] play the C chord is you take your [N] pointer finger, second string up, first fret.
Take your middle finger, we put it on the fourth string up, second fret.
We take our ring finger, top string, third fret.
Take our pinky, second string down, third [C] fret.
It looks and sounds like this.
Now, when he's playing this, we're hammering on with that same note that we had in the G chord.
[G] So we're actually just hammering on with our middle finger, third string down, second fret.
[C] And that's how we play that.
Now let's go back and we'll go through this progression [A] one more time, and then I'll [G] take you to that C.
Look up, child, the world is born.
Your shoes untied and your soles all worn.
Now it switches to the C.
[C] Windows are rolled down and the [G] sun is setting high.
It goes back to the G.
Same progression again.
Windows are [C] rolled down and I'm fixing to die.
Okay, that's the whole song.
It just repeats from [Bb] there.
[N] Again, Amos takes those two chords and makes it a little difficult to play, so it might take a little practice.
But if you have any questions, concerns, need any help with anything, just get a hold of me on my YouTube and I'll do what I can do to help
