Hey, [N] what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here with GuitarJams.com.
Stoked to bring you another heavily requested lesson.
It's really nice because it's kind of just beginner chords with a nice little strumming pattern.
There's just a little link below and you can check it out.
Let's do the lesson now.
Here we go.
[D] So we're going to start with a D major chord.
It's a nice beginner chord.
Also, you could [Bb] play this in drop D.
The only difference, there's two chords where it would be different.
If you're in drop D, right now I'm in standard tuning, so I'm not going to play this, but
if you're in drop D you can strum the whole guitar.
It's a little fuller if you're playing it by yourself.
I'm going to stick with standard tuning, but just keep that in mind.
I'll give you a [Gbm] couple of tips on that.
So here's a rhythm pattern that we're going to start with on this D chord.
[Bb]
[Gb]
[C]
[D] Down, up, down, up, [Bb] down, down, up, up, [Gb] down, [Eb] down, up, down, up.
Form the D chord, same [D] thing.
Then [G] we need to add our index finger.
[D]
Did you see that?
It's a little tricky if you're a beginner there, but you can even just experiment with
that up and down without nailing it perfectly to begin with, because this is a cool trick.
[Gm]
[D] [Bm] You can just mess with your fingers.
[Gm] Okay, so now here's the verse.
We don't do that trick anymore, we just [D] go
[Am] So the second chord is called A minor 7.
So if you know an A [A] minor chord, [Am]
you can play [Em] A minor 7 by taking your ring [A] finger off,
[C] but then also we want to add the third fret to the high E.
I'm using my pinky, you use your ring finger or your pinky.
[D] Okay, so we've got
D, D, D, [C] D, A minor 7, C major.
So we've got to go C major next, and you could [A] do a walk-up, which would be the open A, second
fret [B] on the A, then [C] bring it over and get your ring finger here.
[A] [C]
[G] [C]
[G] So watch.
[D]
D, then we go [C] A minor 7,
[A] [G] then [C] up to C.
[Gm] You could keep your pinky there for the C, or you could put your pinky on the third of
the [C] B as well.
Either one, or just regular C, to E [Em] minor.
And he's [Dm] playing the third fret on the B for that E minor, so it would be called [Em] E minor 7.
You can still play the song with a regular E minor, but that's going to be more accurate.
[D] So we've got
D, [Am] then A minor 7,
[G] [C] C, [G] A minor 7, [D] D.
Starts over on D.
Then we go A [Am] minor 7,
[C] then C, [G] E minor [D] 7, D.
[Em] E minor 7, you can do it with the ring finger or without the ring finger.
Either way.
[D] D.
[Am]
[C] [G]
[D]
[G] [Am] [G]
[C] [Em]
[D]
[G] Chorus is really nice and easy.
[C] C, C, C, [Em] C, minor [G] [D] to D, [C] back to the C, [Em] minor [D] to D.
[C] C, C, C, [Em] E minor to [D] the D, [C] C, C, C, [Em] E minor [D] to the beginning.
[E] Now [Bb] some of these extra fingers can be added.
So [C] C, you can have your pinky either on the third of the B, or the high E, or both even.
[E]
[C] Which would be called C add 9, instead of a regular C.
[Em] They're going to function the [C] same way.
[G] And then you can even just do an [Fm] E minor [Em] with these there.
[D] To D.
So that's [Em] kind of a nice sound.
[D] [Em]

[C] [Em]

[G] [C] [Em]
[D] [C]

Alright, that's [B] the lesson.
Hope you had fun.
We'll see you in another one real soon, hopefully.
Maybe tomorrow.
