Hey everybody, it's Brad Bordessa from Luluculele.com and in this video I'm going to show you how
to play One Love by Bob Marley.
So this is kind of a bare bones version, it's one I've been teaching a lot of my beginning
students and they're picking it up and it's a fun song so I figured I'd go over it.
It's really simple, the chords are just C, [G] G, [F] and [Am]
then there's an A minor in the verse.
Okay so that's your [N] chord chart, that's all the chords you're going to need to know.
So for the chorus, the chords are just going to be C and you can use just a down up strum,
so just [C] a reggae strum.
C, [G]
[F] [C]
[Em] just start over.
So for C and G there are going to be four strums, just down up, down up, down up, down up.
And then for the F there's two, [C] for the next C there's two, G two, C two.
So four four two two two two.
Alright so that's just the chorus strumming.
So for the verse you're going to have two counts on each chord, so two strums on each
chord and it's going to be C, A [Am] minor, [F] [C] back to C.
[G#] So when it goes around a second time
you're going to play the C twice in a row.
So when you start going around the C doubles up to become four counts in a row.
[C] Okay so [F#] to play that along [G#m] with the song it's going to sound [C] like this.
One [G]
love, one heart, [F] let's [C] get together and feel alright.
One love, [G]
one [F] heart, give thanks [C] and praise to the Lord and I will feel alright.
Let them [Am] all pass, let me see their dirty remarks.
[Am] There is one question, very [C] tough to ask.
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner?
He has [Am] hurt all mankind, [C] saved his own believing.
And that goes to the rest of the chorus.
On top of all that you can put picking.
So the picking goes over the chorus, the let's get together first part of the chorus.
So for picking it's just like you were singing.
So you're picking what you'd be singing which is the melody.
So if you're playing the chorus.
[G]
[F] [C] [G] [C]
So with the picking it's going to be like this.
[Gm] [Cm]
[Fm] [N] So all that is is single notes, if you want to embellish it a little bit you can use [Am] harmony
notes and play it in thirds or sixths or whatever you want to [C#m] play it in.
But the single note picking it's going to be 7 7 fret wise, it's all on the bottom string
so I'm just going [Em] to go fret wise.
So 7 7 and then [G] 5 5, [D] 8 7 5 and then [Cm] you go back to the third fret.
[G]
[Bm] [Cm] All together.
[Gm]
[C] [Cm]
[E] Fingering is not a super big deal with this because it's not that complicated.
But [F] one thing I would recommend is when you shift down to the third fret is using your
first finger there.
So you can, because that's the faster part.
So if you can use that and then you add your third finger on the fifth fret.
[D] [G#] So mess around with that, add thirds and sixths if you [F#] feel like that would end up sounding [C] like.
[Bm] [G] [C]
So kind of bending the lines there a little bit, that's a fourth.
But you kind of change that [Am] because a third doesn't sound quite right there.
[E] And then in sixths you'd move up and skip [Em] a string.
I think this [B] sounds better personally.
[D] [Cm] Okay.
[C#] So if you have a friend around [N] or somebody who you can play with you could do the picking
and then they could do the picking and you could take turns playing the chords and backing
the other guy up.
So that's it.
Have fun with it.
Peace.
