How to Play Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot (cover) - Easy 4 Chord Tune chords
Start Jamming...
Hey folks, Party Marty here, Easy Guitar Tunes.
I've got another really, really classic tune from one of my favourite Canadian artists, Gordon Lightfoot.
It's called Sundown.
Really, really, really good tune.
I haven't played it in a while there, but I absolutely love this song and I'm glad you guys requested it.
So let's give this one a go.
Pretty simple, the chords are E.
Oh, by the way, I'm in capo in the second fret, by the way.
[N] That's the way he plays it.
And it kind of fits my voice, so we left it there.
[F#] E.
There's a [C#] B7.
[C#m] B7 is that four finger kind of that bluesy chord.
If you need any help with the chords, guys, just go to my chord help there in the info below the video.
And you can go there [B] and click on whatever lesson you [E] need.
Or what key you need, I suppose.
[B] So there's an A [E] and there's a D.
So again, [F#] they're E, [C#] B7, [B] A, [E] and D.
Now generally [N] when I put a capo on, you're supposed to put it kind of just snug it up right next to the fret that you're not using there, just behind it.
But I find with that B7 I need a little extra room, so that's why the capo's kind of over here.
And I do that so that [C#] I've got more room to play that B7.
[C] Now I put kind of a funky strum on this tune.
You don't have to do [F#] that.
You can definitely strum through it if you like.
I can see you lying here in a satin dress, [C#] in a room where she [F#] do what she don't confess.
Or you can kind of add [G#] a bit of the funky [F#] slap strum that I add.
And when you get a little more comfortable with strumming, then you can start messing around with the different types of strums that we do.
I can see you lying here in a satin dress, [C#] in a room where she do [F#] what she don't confess.
[A#] So it's totally up to you, but I'll slow the strum down anyway.
And [G] you can choose what you want to do.
You can strum right through it, or you can kind of do the little [C#m] slap strum.
By the way, [F#] it's more just of a muted strum.
I'm using the pad of my hand there.
[N] So if you want a little better explanation of my slap strum, there is a link to that slap strum video in the info as well.
So it kind of goes something like [F#] this.
[C#] [F#]
[B] [E] [F#]
[B] [E] [B] [F#]
So more or less it's just a drum beat.
Or you don't have to do that.
We'll do a half a verse with O.
I can see you lying here in a satin dress, in [C#] a room where she do [F#] what she don't confess.
Some down [B] you better take care, [E] if I find you been [F#] creeping down my back stair.
[B] [E]
[F#] So [C] I hope I didn't confuse you there.
I'm just trying to give you [B] the both flavors.
So that would be the strum without it, or you can do the slap strum.
A little more advanced strum there, and I want you guys to make it your own.
There's no rhyme or reason.
It's just one of those things that I think sounds better, and it's the way I play it.
So I wanted to make sure you guys were aware.
So [C] let's give this one a go.
Make sure you practice your strums and your chords, and then join us for the song, [F#] Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot.
Here we go.
I can see you lying here in a satin [C#] dress, in a room where she [F#] do what she don't confess.
Some [B] down you better take [E] care, if I find you been [F#] creeping down my back stair.
Some [B] down you better take care, [E] if I find you been [F#] creeping down my back stair.
She been looking like a queen in a sailor dream, [C#] but you don't always [F#] say what she really means.
[B] Sometimes I think it's a shame, [E] when I get feeling [F#] better than feeling the pain.
Sometimes [B] I think it's a shame, [E] when I get feeling [F#] better than feeling the pain.
I can picture every move that a man could [C#] make, getting lost in a [F#] love and issue first mistake.
Some [B] down you better take care, [E] if I find you been [F#] creeping down my back stair.
Sometimes [B] I think it's a sin, [E] when I get feeling [F#] better than when I'm losing the game.
I can see her looking fast in her faded [C#] jeans, she's the heart of a [F#] woman got me feeling mean.
[B] Sometimes I think it's a shame, [E] when I get feeling [F#] better than when I'm feeling the pain.
Some [B] down you better take [E] care, if I find you been [F#] creeping down my back stair.
Some [B] down you better take [E] care, if I find you been [F#] creeping down my back stair.
[B] Sometimes I think it's a sin, [E] when I feel like I'm [F#] winning when I'm losing the game.
[B] Sometimes I think it's a sin, [E] when I get feeling [F#] winning when I'm losing the game.
