it.
It's by [G] Merle Haggard.
It's called Mama Tried.
It might be one of his most [Gbm] famous
tunes that he ever did and I know he did hundreds of wonderful songs, but this is definitely
one of his biggest.

Real simple tune.
There's not too
many chords in it.
It's just D, _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] G, _ _ _ _ _ [A] A, _ _ and there's also [Bm] B minor.
_ _ B minor as you remember
[Dbm] is the barre in the second _ _ _ fret and the second finger on the second string from the bottom
in the third fret.
_ And then [E] you've got your _ _ third finger and your fourth finger on the
third and fourth strings from [Bm] the bottom in the fourth fret. _
_ _ I also [Gb] sometimes do a cheat.
[C] So all that is is your single finger rather than the barre single finger on the bottom
and then your last two fingers [Bm] covering those. _ _ _
But if you're going to do the cheat, you can't
strum [A] these two top strings because it'll make it sound crappy.
So _ anyway, [D] I try to
use the full barre though and you [Bm] guys should too until you get used [G] to it before you use
[Eb] the cheat.
